Summary: The study evaluated the effectiveness of different echocardiographic indices in estimating true LVFP and found a moderate pooled association with invasively measured LVFP, which varied widely with disease state. In heart failure with preserved ejection fraction, no single echocardiography-based metric offered a reliable estimate, while in heart failure with reduced ejection fraction, mitral inflow-derived indices showed reasonable clinical applicability. An integrated approach using multiple echocardiographic metrics shows promise for reliably estimating LVFP, but further validation in larger patient-specific studies is needed.

Summary: This study aimed to establish reference ranges for VFT measurements in healthy children and adolescents and analyze VFT parameters to assess diastolic dysfunction in rTOF patients. The results showed that VFTvolume could potentially improve our understanding of LV diastolic dysfunction in rTOF patients.

Summary: Normal aging leads to decreased circulation of the E-vortex and increased circulation of the A-vortex. The circulation of the different vortices correlated with different echocardiographic parameters. Despite changes in vortex patterns, energy loss did not significantly differ in older individuals. Maintained energy efficiency accompanies vortex pattern changes in aging hearts.

Summary: The VMT scoring system may serve as a potential new marker of elevated LVFP in patients with heart failure. It could assist in diagnosis and has been validated in different patient cohorts.

Summary: Chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH) is characterized by the obstruction of major pulmonary arteries with organized thrombi. The study investigated the prevalence and prognostic implications of elevated left ventricular filling pressures (LVFP) in CTEPH through diagnostic right and left heart catheterization in 593 CTEPH patients.

Summary: Normative reference intervals and z-scores for 2-dimensional echocardiographic measurements of left ventricular structure and function in healthy newborns were developed. These results provide important reference material for clinical application by pediatric cardiologists.

Summary: Standard echocardiographic indices of diastolic function have limited diagnostic value in patients with Takotsubo cardiomyopathy and are not as accurate as invasive measurements of left ventricular end-diastolic pressure and left ventricular pre-A wave diastolic pressure. Therefore, invasive measurements should be used for optimal risk stratification and management in these patients.

Summary: This study provides normal reference values for the right ventricular to left ventricular endsystolic ratio and the left ventricular endsystolic eccentricity index in healthy children and children with pediatric pulmonary hypertension. Age is an important factor influencing these values, and children with pulmonary hypertension have higher values compared to healthy children.

Summary: Although traditional ECG-LVH criteria have some association with echocardiographic LVH, they show distinct relationships with stenosis severity in aortic stenosis. Among these criteria, the Cornell voltage criterion has a moderate diagnostic superiority in identifying anatomic LVH.

Summary: This study evaluated the association between blood pressure control and echocardiographic changes in hypertensive patients. It found that patients with uncontrolled blood pressure have worse left ventricular structure and function, especially in global longitudinal strain changes, which occur earlier and are subtler than conventional indexes.

Summary: This study analyzed the impact of cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) devices providing triggered left ventricular pacing (tLVp) on heart failure patients. The study found that tLVp algorithms were inferior to regular biventricular pacing in terms of cardiac resynchronization, but they can be used as a supplementary option after medical treatment and ablation procedures.

Summary: This study aimed to determine the association between the newly proposed echocardiographic LVFP parameter, visually assessed time difference between the mitral valve and tricuspid valve opening (VMT) score, and clinical outcomes of HFpEF. The results showed that VMT score was independently and incrementally associated with adverse clinical outcomes in patients with HFpEF. Moreover, it could also predict clinical outcomes in HFpEF patients with atrial fibrillation (AF).

Summary: This study aimed to elucidate the impact of RR-interval and heart rate on left ventricular function during atrial fibrillation (AF). The research found that changes in preload and heart rate can significantly affect LV peak strain, with faster heart rates showing greater sensitivity to RR-interval changes. The simulations suggest that longer LV activation relative to the preceding RR-interval plays a key role in determining LV systolic function during AF.
