Summary: In RCC patients undergoing laparoscopic partial or radical nephrectomy, NLR and PLR were identified as biomarkers of systemic inflammation associated with increased risk of sarcopenia. The best cutoff points for predicting sarcopenia risk were NLR >2.88 and PLR >135.63, with higher levels indicating a greater risk. Adjusting for various variables, patients with NLR >2.88 and PLR >135.63 had significantly higher risks of developing sarcopenia compared to those with lower NLR or PLR levels.

Summary: This meta-analysis supports the association between depression and inflammation, with NLR being a potential indicator of depression. However, no significant differences were found in PLR and MLR values between depressed subjects and controls. Further large-scale studies are needed to evaluate the role of PLR and MLR in depression.

Summary: The ratios of neutrophil-to-lymphocyte (NLR), monocyte-to-lymphocyte (MLR), and platelet-to-lymphocyte (PLR) are potential biomarkers for predicting mortality in various diseases. This study aimed to investigate the association between NLR, MLR, PLR, and 90-day mortality in patients with community-acquired pneumonia (CAP), as well as the potential improvement of the prediction rule CURB-65 by adding these biomarkers. The results showed that NLR and PLR were associated with 90-day mortality in CAP, but adding them to CURB-65 did not improve its performance.

Summary: Sex-dependent differences exist in the contribution of neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR), lymphocyte-to-monocyte ratio (LMR), and mean platelet volume-to-platelet ratio (MPR) to COVID-19 severity and mortality. The mortality rate of COVID-19 is higher among men, and men have higher levels of NLR, MLR, and MPR compared to women. NLR, MLR, and PLR have better sensitivity for predicting pneumonia severity in men, while their specificity is enhanced in women.

Summary: In this study, the researchers investigated whether NLR and PLR could predict mortality and length of hospital stay after cardiac surgery. The results showed that NLR and PLR are efficient predictive factors for 90-day mortality and length of stay in cardiac surgery patients. Monitoring NLR and PLR postoperatively could provide a reliable predictor of patients' outcomes.

Summary: This study analyzed data from 991 ovarian cancer patients and found that the lymphocyte to monocyte ratio (LMR) and platelet to neutrophil ratio (PNR) were independent prognostic indicators of ovarian cancer. In contrast, the platelet to lymphocyte ratio (PLR) and systemic immune-inflammation index (SII) had limited prognostic value. In conclusion, LMR and PNR are superior prognostic indicators in ovarian cancer.

Summary: This study aimed to assess whether the platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR) is independently associated with all-cause mortality and cardiovascular mortality in maintenance hemodialysis (MHD) patients. The results showed that high PLR levels can independently predict all-cause and cardiovascular mortality in MHD patients.

Summary: The role of neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and platelet to lymphocyte ratio (PLR) in predicting spontaneous preterm birth was investigated. Retrospective data collected from hospital records between February 2018 and November 2022 showed that NLR and PLR values can predict preterm birth with high sensitivity and specificity. Predicting preterm birth allows for sensitive and smooth management of the pregnancy process.

Summary: This study examines the role of alterations in the immune-inflammation system in affective disorders, specifically major depressive disorder (MDD) and bipolar disorder (BD). The neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio (NLR), platelet/lymphocyte ratio (PLR), and monocyte/lymphocyte ratio (MLR) are investigated as inflammation markers. The findings reveal elevated NLR and MLR in first-episode and recurrent MDD patients, as well as higher NLR and MLR and lower PLR in BD patients. Moreover, BD manic episode patients have significantly higher NLR and MLR compared to BD depressive episode patients or MDD patients. Overall, this study highlights the importance of systemic inflammation in the pathophysiology of MDD and BD, particularly during manic BD episodes.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the association and potential non-linear relationship between neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio (NLR), platelet to lymphocyte ratio (PLR), and monocyte to lymphocyte ratio (MLR) with depression. Based on a cross-sectional study of US adults, it was found that only PLR was significantly associated with depression. Furthermore, the relationships between NLR, PLR, and MLR with depression were found to be non-linear.

Summary: This study found that the neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR) are significantly higher in patients with depression. However, the monocyte-to-lymphocyte ratio (MLR) is slightly higher but not significantly different. Sensitivity and subgroup analysis revealed differences in inflammatory ratios in different regions and in patients with post-stroke depression (PSD).

Summary: The neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR) are valuable biomarkers for assessing the clinical significance of Henoch-Schonlein purpura (HSP) and its complications, with NLR particularly useful in predicting gastrointestinal complications and renal involvement in HSP patients. Further well-designed and large cohort studies are needed to confirm these findings.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the association between COVID-19, COVID-19-related drugs, TB reactivation, and TB incidence. By investigating eight patients diagnosed with TB during the early period of the pandemic, it was found that there was an increase in the incidence of TB in children and adolescents during this period. This may be related to the pathogenic structure of the COVID-19 virus with an unknown mechanism, as well as changes in lifestyle and healthcare policies during the pandemic. Further research is needed on this topic.
