Summary: This study investigated the translocation of foliar-applied zinc in sunflower leaves using synchrotron-based X-ray fluorescence microscopy (XFM) and transcriptome analysis. The results showed that the distribution of zinc changed over time, with initial accumulation in the epidermal layers and subsequent movement to the vascular tissues. Transcriptome analysis revealed genes involved in stress response, cell wall reinforcement, and binding. These findings are of significance for improving the efficiency of foliar zinc fertilizers.

Summary: This study identified major loci associated with nectar volume variation in sunflower using genetic mapping. Increased nectar volume was found to be associated with increased sugars and total energy per floret. Candidate genes on chromosomes were found to be homologous to genes with nectary function in Arabidopsis.

Summary: Sunflower downy mildew is a serious disease that significantly reduces sunflower yields worldwide. Understanding the spread and evolution of the pathogen population is crucial for developing resistant sunflower lines. In this study, the presence of the resistance gene Pl(36) in the sunflower line 803-1 was confirmed and its genetic mapping was conducted.

Summary: This study demonstrates the impact of NaCl stress on Ca2+-calmodulin activity and spatial distribution in the roots of sunflower seedlings. The results suggest that NaCl stress induces Ca2+ signaling in roots through both calmodulin-dependent and calmodulin-independent pathways. Furthermore, the study reveals differential protein phosphorylation in response to salt stress in both roots and cotyledons, indicating long-distance signaling of Na+ stress from roots to cotyledons.

Summary: The log-spiral antenna belt (LSAB) is a novel sparse planar array that can estimate the angle-of-arrival (AoA) of an IoT device in 3D space using a few antennas connected to a single timeshare channel. LSAB deploys antennas in a non-linear manner on a log-spiral-shaped belt, which provides better performance compared to traditional arrays.

Summary: Oleic acid is a valuable trait in oilseed crops as it increases oil oxidative stability. This study focused on the genetic control of high oleic acid content in sunflower. Through QTL mapping, it was found that the trait is controlled by one major effect locus, but with different dominant/recessive effects in different crosses. Additionally, a translocation between chromosome 7 and 14 was observed in one of the crosses. Marker-assisted selection can be achieved using the identified single nucleotide polymorphism markers.

Summary: Innovative technological solutions are needed to enhance patients' quality of life and provide suitable treatment. The Internet of Things (IoT) combined with big data algorithms can enable healthcare workers to remotely monitor patients. Gathering information on usage and health issues is crucial for improving treatment methods. To ensure seamless integration in healthcare institutions, senior communities, and private homes, these technological tools must be user-friendly and easily implemented. We propose a network cluster-based system called smart patient room usage to achieve this, allowing nursing staff and caretakers to efficiently utilize it.

Summary: The study developed a microneedle sensor on a hybrid substrate based on high Young's modulus epoxy siloxane and low Young's modulus polydimethylsiloxane, successfully achieving a microneedle sensor array on a flexible substrate. Mechanical durability was assessed through insertion into pig skin 1000 times, and the utility of flexible microneedle pH sensors in monitoring pH distribution in a disease model was demonstrated.
