Summary: Two new enantiomers of helical TPE molecules with aggregation-induced emission (AIE) enhancement effect were synthesized, exhibiting strong circular dichroism (CD) and circularly polarized luminescence (CPL) signals in both solution and solid state. The TPE molecules with long alkyl chains showed stable second harmonic generation (SHG) chiral signals at the air/water interface when forming Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) monolayers.

Summary: The study shows that as the concentration of ZOR nanorods increases, the order parameter of LC nanocomposites increases while the ionic conductivity decreases. Beyond 0.3 wt % concentration of nanorods, vertical alignment of host LC is observed even in planar aligned cells.

Summary: The alignment of anisotropic nanomaterials affects their functions. Rod-like cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs) form liquid crystals with self-ordering and exhibit unique optical properties. Native cellulose nanofibrils (CNFs) are oriented and their orientation correlates with their mechanical strength and cell responses. A fabrication method for non-uniaxial, fingerprint-like alignment of CNFs using the Langmuir-Blodgett technique is proposed. The obtained Langmuir-Blodgett films of CNFs show anisotropic frictional properties depending on the orientation direction. This process for CNF ultrathin film fabrication can be used for novel surface design with desired structure-function correlations, providing anisotropic surface properties.

Summary: Antimicrobial coatings grafted onto implant surfaces are effective in preventing implant-associated infections. Beta-peptide polymers and host defense peptide mimicking polymers show promise in fighting drug-resistant bacteria. Among the polymers tested, P3, which contains secondary amino groups, exhibits high antibacterial activity. P3-modified thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) is a potential antimicrobial material that effectively prevents TPU-related infections and promotes host cell growth in subcutaneous implant infection models.

Summary: The study investigated the impact of Ar+ ions at 420 eV on a stainless-steel sample partially coated with a 50 nm thick gold layer, revealing significant differences in the ion-induced electron emission yield between the two target materials, allowing for accurate reproduction of the shape of the gold film. Comparison with optical and scanning electron microscopy, as well as X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy measurements of the sample surface, explained details in the two-dimensional map of the ion-induced electron emission yield. Unlike sputtering efficiency, the ion-induced electron emission yield was found to be independent of the orientation of the crystal structure.

Summary: This study explores the possibility of designing rational carbon dots surface functionalization for specific analytical and bioanalytical applications. By synthesizing four different peptides and bonding them to carbon dots using different experimental procedures, the researchers achieved different peptide orientations and fluorescent responses on the functionalized surface. These results suggest that amino and carboxyl enriched surface carbon dots can be designed to meet specific chemical requirements, opening up potential applications for these nanoparticles as versatile and useful tools in chemistry and biochemistry.

Summary: Over the past 25 years, evidence has shown that the DNA base-pair stack plays a crucial role in charge transport chemistry, leading to the development of powerful DNA electrochemical sensors. Perturbations in base stacking, such as DNA mismatches, lesions, and protein binding, have been found to interrupt DNA charge transport. This sensitivity has implications for developing protocols and characterizations necessary for performing DNA-mediated electrochemistry, highlighting the importance of DNA integrity in charge transport.

Summary: In addition to modifying surface properties, self-assembled monolayers on nanoparticles can selectively incorporate small molecules from the surrounding solution. This study uses catalytic centers embedded in hydrophobic SAMs on nanoparticles to quantitatively analyze the partitioning of molecules between the bulk solvent and these monolayers. The results demonstrate that the incorporation-into-SAM constant can be related to the bulk log P values, supporting the idea that nanoscopic on-particle SAMs act like a bulk solvent phase.

Summary: A method for fabricating thin films for electrostatic deposition of colloidal silver nanoplates was developed in this study. The deposition rate and surface coverage of nanoplates were found to be dependent on factors such as molar concentration and surface zeta potential. A simple model and Monte Carlo simulation were used to understand the deposition kinetics based on the principle of effective exclusion radius.

Summary: The cooperativity index, Kc, was developed to examine the binding synergy between hot spots of the ligand-protein. The spatial arrangements of hydrophilic alpha-helical hot spots in protein-protein interaction (PPI) complex structures were disclosed and quantified using novel clustering models. The driving force for the convergence of these hot spots was analyzed, allowing the development of pharmacophore models for designing new mimetics.

Summary: The local pH at the interfaces between neutral and charged lipids in biomembranes is crucial for their structure and function. Previous studies have shown that the local pH at charged lipid interfaces is determined by the charge of the lipid. This study uses HD-ESFG spectroscopy to investigate the local pH at neutral lipid interfaces and finds that it is higher than in bulk water for nonionic lipids, and lower for zwitterionic lipids.

Summary: Accurate and automatic detection of road surface elements is crucial for many applications. We propose a content-adaptive hierarchical deep learning model to detect arbitrary-oriented road surface elements from mobile laser scanning point clouds. Experimental results demonstrate that our method maintains robust detection performance in cases of unbalanced category numbers or overlapping road surface elements, improves the recognition effects of small targets, and accurately predicts boundary offsets for each target.

Summary: Imaging satellite performance parameters, such as modulation transfer function (MTF), can be measured and analyzed using simulated images. The validity of MTF extraction algorithms was confirmed by comparing theoretical input with actual results. Factors such as slanted edge angle, TDI steps, pixel pitch size, restoration level, ROI selection, dark noise, and oversampling number were found to have varying degrees of impact on MTF curves.
