Summary: This study examined the effect of pulsed electromagnetic field (PEMF) therapy on a mouse model of lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced septic shock. The results showed that PEMF treatment increased the survival rate of mice and decreased pro-inflammatory cytokine gene expression and liver damage. Microarray analysis identified several genes regulated by PEMF therapy. Therefore, PEMF may be beneficial for patients with bacteria-induced sepsis and reduce septic shock-induced mortality.

Summary: The study showed that Pediococcus pentococcus PP04 has a significant ameliorative effect on liver injury induced by a high-fat diet, by regulating intestinal permeability and reducing endotoxins and liver enzyme concentrations. Additionally, PP04 improved liver injury by regulating intestinal inflammation and antioxidant expression, and may rebalance intestinal flora disorders by regulating the relative abundance of inflammation and obesity-related bacteria in mice.

Summary: Stevioside, a diterpenoid glycoside, shows anti-inflammatory activities by down-regulating pro-inflammatory cytokines and mediators in macrophages and increasing anti-inflammatory cytokines. It activates the AMPK pathway to attenuate LPS-induced inflammatory responses in both in vitro and in vivo models.

Summary: This study confirmed that MLN-infested soil is essential for the survival and spread of MCMV, but SCMV was not detected or transmitted in the soil. One of the major causes of severe maize yield losses is MLN infection, so proper management or clearing of crop residues and crop rotation are necessary to reduce the impact of MLN disease on maize production.

Summary: Loss-of-function mutations in Drosophila lethal (3) malignant brain tumor [l(3) mbt] result in ectopic expression of germ-line genes and brain tumors. The study reveals that L(3) mbt genomic binding is not always linked to gene regulation and it controls piRNA pathway genes through multiple mechanisms. Furthermore, a novel co-regulator of L(3) mbt, Lint-O, is identified and shown to impact the levels of piRNA amplifiers.
