The organometallic complex of (eta(6)-cymene)Ru(II)Br with 6-thioguanine (6-TG) shows better photostability than the biologically active 6-thioguanine which is used as an immunosuppressant and as an anticancer agent.

C-MEMS-derived glassy carbon electrochemical biosensors for rapid detection of SARS-CoV-2 spike protein

Naresh Mandal, Raja Mitra, Bidhan Pramanick

Summary: According to a report from WHO, there have been a staggering number of cases and deaths from COVID-19 worldwide. The spread of the virus is attributed to various factors, including the lack of detection kits and techniques, the presence of asymptomatic cases, and failures in mass screening. In this study, a simple and cost-effective method using a surface functionalized glassy carbon electrode was developed to rapidly detect the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein.

Electrocatalytic reduction of CO2 to CO by a series of organometallic Re(i)-tpy complexes

Summary: A series of organometallic Re(I)(L)(CO)(3)Br complexes with 4'-substituted terpyridine ligands (L) were synthesised and used as electrocatalysts for CO2 reduction. The effect of substitution on the 4'-position of terpyridine on CO2 electroreduction was investigated. All complexes catalyse CO evolution in homogeneous organic media at moderate overpotentials with high faradaic yields. The influence of the pK(a) of the proton sources on the electrochemical catalytic activity was also demonstrated.
