Summary: A new organoruthenium(II) complex was designed, synthesized, and evaluated for cytotoxicity. The complex exhibited significant intermolecular interactions in the crystal structure, and showed preferential affinity toward minor groove in DNA photocleavage activity. Cytotoxic studies revealed moderate but selective activity against pancreatic and cervical cancer cell lines.

Summary: In the presence of carboxypeptidase, the hydrolytically stable complex partially released the bioactive substituent indomethacin, which was bound through the amide bond to the chelating moiety. The stability in the presence of other relevant biomolecules and cancer cell viability were also investigated in this study.

Summary: This study presents the synthesis and initial observations of the reactivity between borole-based half-sandwich complexes with apical divalent group 14 elements germanium and tin. The 2,5-disilylborole substitution pattern allows their access through salt metathesis of the respective borole dianions.

Summary: Phosphanyl-substituted tin(ii) half sandwich complexes, which form head-to-tail dimers due to the Lewis acidic tin center and Lewis basic phosphorous atom, were reported. Their properties and reactivities were investigated both experimentally and theoretically. Furthermore, related transition metal complexes of these species are presented.

Summary: The synthesis and catalytic studies of a prototypical coordinatively rigid carbometalated half-sandwich Ru(II) complex with a rigid polyaromatic tether were described. Despite its coordinatively and electronically saturated nature, the complex demonstrated the ability to activate and transfer hydrogen to polar and nonpolar double bonds. The catalytic activity was benchmarked in the Ru-catalyzed chemoselective hydrogenation of alpha,beta-unsaturated ketones, with initial mechanistic studies suggesting an inner-sphere mechanism via dihydride intermediates.

Summary: The ruthenium arene fragment is a valuable source for designing anticancer drugs, and the co-ligand plays a crucial role in obtaining effective anticancer complexes. N-heterocyclic carbenes (NHCs), despite their versatility and ability to stabilize metal ions, have not been extensively explored. However, recent advancements have been made in the development of NHC ruthenium arene complexes as potent anticancer agents.

Summary: In this study, model compounds such as Ru-dca and Ir-dca were used to investigate the behavior of complexes containing bioactive substituents like dichloroacetate (dca) in solution, with characterization done using techniques such as single-crystal X-ray analysis. However, these complexes did not demonstrate antiproliferative activity in four human cancer cell lines.

Summary: A mild and environmentally friendly method was reported for synthesizing half-sandwich ruthenium complexes through the Wittig reaction using phosphorus ylide mechanochemically. The synthesized complexes exhibited high catalytic activity in the transfer hydrogenation of ketones without the need for harsh reaction conditions and organic solvents. Density functional theory was used to propose a mechanism for the transfer hydrogenation process, highlighting the importance of the labile p-cymene ligand in modulating catalyst reactivity.

Summary: This article presents a rational design of half-sandwich Ru(II) complexes for mitochondria-targeted anticancer and antimetastatic agents by introducing the NDI unit into the N,N-chelating ligand of these complexes, which exhibit excellent emission performance. These complexes have potential applications in the design of multifunctional theranostic agents and fluorescent biomarkers.

Summary: The facile modification of ligands in organometallic Ru(II)-arene complexes provides more opportunities for optimizing their pharmacological profiles. This study designed and synthesized three Ru(II)-arene complexes containing a GST inhibitor (NBDHEX), with in vitro results showing increased activities against tumor cells, especially in complex 3 which demonstrated the highest activity. Complex 3, with more alkyl groups in the arene ligand, exhibited increased electron density at the Ru(II) center leading to improved hydrolysis rate and higher anticancer activity.

Summary: Water splitting is an emerging field within sustainable energy systems. A new complex [Ru-hdm] has been synthesized and characterized, showing efficient O-2 generation through both chemical and electrochemical water oxidation. The kinetics of chemical water oxidation demonstrate a first-order dependency on CAN and catalyst concentration.

Summary: According to a report from WHO, there have been a staggering number of cases and deaths from COVID-19 worldwide. The spread of the virus is attributed to various factors, including the lack of detection kits and techniques, the presence of asymptomatic cases, and failures in mass screening. In this study, a simple and cost-effective method using a surface functionalized glassy carbon electrode was developed to rapidly detect the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein.

Summary: A series of organometallic Re(I)(L)(CO)(3)Br complexes with 4'-substituted terpyridine ligands (L) were synthesised and used as electrocatalysts for CO2 reduction. The effect of substitution on the 4'-position of terpyridine on CO2 electroreduction was investigated. All complexes catalyse CO evolution in homogeneous organic media at moderate overpotentials with high faradaic yields. The influence of the pK(a) of the proton sources on the electrochemical catalytic activity was also demonstrated.
