Summary: The presence of lead in wastewater poses a threat to the quality of water, as well as the aquatic organisms and the environment. Therefore, proper wastewater treatment is necessary before discharging it into receiving water bodies. This study synthesized and investigated the efficiency of lead removal using chicken eggshell powder (CP) and chicken eggshell powder-doped iron (III) oxide-hydroxide (CPF) through various experiments. CPF demonstrated higher lead removal efficiency compared to CP, requiring less material dosage and contact time. Additionally, CPF showed promise as a reusable material for lead adsorption in industrial applications.

Summary: In this study, a novel fabrication technique for preparing N-functionalized carbon nanodots was developed through one-pot hydrothermal route. The N/C atomic ratio in the CNDs structure was precisely tuned using different isomers, resulting in intense fluorescence in highly-polarity solvents and quenching in others. The ultrahigh quantum yield of the CNDs is attributed to intense radiative emission mechanism induced by substitutional N atoms and N- and O-rich edge groups, making them promising for various applications in optical, sensing, energy storage/conversion, and biological devices.

Summary: Heteroatom-doped carbon materials have been proven as effective catalysts for organic contaminant remediation. In this study, waste eggshell and Co3O4 were converted into N, P, S tri-doped core-shell catalyst using molten salt electrolysis. The Co@NPSC/peroxymonosulfate system showed a remarkable turnover frequency value for sulfamethoxazole degradation, even at a low catalyst dosage. Density functional theory simulations helped clarify the mechanism of catalytic oxidation and confirmed the detoxification of the degraded compound.

Summary: The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of nickel-waste chicken eggshell modified Hydrogen exchanged Zeolite Socony Mobil-5 (Ni-WCE/HZSM-5) on the pyrolysis of high-density polyethylene (HDPE). The impregnation of nickel and WCE significantly affected the structure and surface properties of HZSM-5. Among the tested catalytic samples, WCE showed the highest pyrolysis oil yield and Ni/HZSM-5 exhibited the highest yield of C6 and C7 hydrocarbons.

Summary: In this study, gadolinium-doped carbon quantum dots (Gd-doped CQDs) were synthesized using a hydrothermal method and characterized. The synthesized CQDs exhibited highly amorphous carbon structure, functionalized with C-N and N-H bonds. UV-Vis spectroscopy showed an absorption peak in the synthesized CQDs, and the photoluminescence (PL) depended on the excitation wavelength. The Gd-doped CQDs showed sustained PL in ionic solutions with different ionic strengths and temperatures. Additionally, the Gd-doped CQDs were well distributed in cells and showed excellent imaging performance in MRI, making them promising for biomedical diagnosis and brain mapping applications.

Summary: In this study, green fluorescent carbon nanodots (CDs) were synthesized using waste PET bottles as carbon precursors, showing excellent photoluminescence properties and high selectivity for lead ions (Pb2+). The CDs had a highly negative zeta potential value, indicating good colloidal stability, and demonstrated anti-interference activity for Pb2+ detection despite the presence of other ions. This suggests that the CDs have potential for environmentally friendly and cost-effective detection of Pb2+ ions in aqueous solutions.

Summary: This study developed a novel low-cost chemical compound named hydroxyl-eggshell (ES-OH) for arsenic removal from aqueous solutions, providing a local and environmentally-friendly way of recycling eggshells. The adsorption mechanism of ES-OH on arsenic was found to be vladimirite precipitation followed by weak electrostatic interactions, showing promising potential for application in egg-processing industries.

Summary: In recent years, heteroatom-doped microporous carbons have attracted significant attention as emerging CO2 adsorbents. However, the role of small-sized micropores and heteroatom content on CO2 adsorption has rarely been studied. In this study, sucrose-derived porous carbons with different ratios of KOH and urea content were synthesized, and their textural features and CO2 adsorption capacity were investigated. The carbons showed remarkable surface area and micropore volume, with the optimized sample achieving a CO2 uptake of 8.19 mmol g-1. The nitrogen moieties in the carbons were found to contribute to the selective separation of CO2 from N-2 gases. In conclusion, the narrow micropores and optimal nitrogen content played a crucial role in achieving excellent CO2 adsorption performance in these carbons.
