Summary: Three novel sultone based Bronsted acidic ionic liquids were prepared and characterized, showing good catalytic efficiency and thermal stability for the synthesis of polycyclic compounds. These introduced acidic ionic liquids are green, environmentally friendly, task specific, and easily recoverable up to six consecutive runs without significant decrease in catalytic activity.

Summary: In this study, a newly reported modified polymeric catalyst poly(vinylpyrrolidonium) perchlorate {[PVPH]ClO4} was used as an efficient and reusable solid acid catalyst for the synthesis of 2H-indazolo[2,1-b]phthalazine-trione derivatives. The reactions were conducted under mild conditions with excellent yields obtained in short reaction times. Importantly, the solid acid catalyst demonstrated the ability to be reused multiple times without significant loss in activity.

Summary: A practical and green method using Fe3O4@SiO2-imid-PMA(n) nanoparticles as a magnetic catalyst for the synthesis of 2H-indazolo[2,1-b]phthalazine-triones and 1H-pyrazolo[1,2-b]phthalazine-diones is described, with notable advantages such as operational simplicity, high yields, short reaction time, and ability to be reused for multiple cycles without loss of activity. This new method provides a potential alternative to other heterogeneous catalysts.

Summary: A four-component reaction of aromatic aldehydes, phthalic anhydride, hydrazine monohydrate and dimedone has been achieved in the presence of nano-gamma-Al2O3/BFn/Fe3O4 as a highly effective heterogeneous catalyst to produce 2H-indazolo[2,1-b]phthalazine triones. Atom economy, low catalyst loading, reusable catalyst, applicability to a wide range of substrates and high yields of products are some important features of this protocol.

Summary: This study successfully achieved a direct carbocyclization of 2-aryl-2,3-dihydrophthalazine-1,4-diones using isocyanates as the carbonyl source via Ru(II)-catalyzed sequential ortho-amidation followed by intramolecular nucleophilic substitution, delivering substituted indazolo[1,2-b]phthalazine-triones in good-to-excellent yields. Additionally, excellent yields of the corresponding amidated products were obtained for ortho-substituted 2-aryl-2,3-dihydrophthalazine-1,4-diones by modifying the reaction parameters. The use of isocyanates as the carbonyl source, high functional group tolerance on the two coupling partners, and diverse chemical transformation of the synthesized fused and functionalized phthalazinones are the key highlights of this work.

Summary: The synthesis of 2H-indazolo[2,1-b] phthalazine-triones and triazolo[1,2-a]indazole-triones through one-pot three-component reactions under solvent-free conditions using a 1H-1,2,4-triazole-3-thiol-functionalized core-shell Fe3O4@SiO2 magnetic nanocomposite as catalyst is presented. The catalyst was developed through a four-step protocol and characterized using various techniques. The catalytic activity of the nano-catalyst was evaluated, showing excellent yields for all products. The catalyst demonstrated a stability of 92% after five runs, with the additional advantages of simplicity of use and easy separation.

Summary: In this study, a novel heterogeneous catalyst, silica bonded n-propyl-4H-1,2,4-triazol-3-amine chloride, was prepared. The structure of the catalyst was confirmed through characterization techniques. The catalyst exhibited excellent catalytic activity and reusability in a one-pot reaction.
