Summary: In a secondary mental health service, the positivity rate of NMDAR-IgG was low, with a positive predictive value for encephalitis around 50% in patients with chronic presentations and absence of other diagnostic criteria for encephalitis or autoimmune psychosis. Chronic neuropsychiatric problems in patients with anti-NMDAR encephalitis are not uncommon, highlighting the need for improved diagnostic and treatment strategies.

Summary: This study investigated the relationship between the levels of ENA-78 in peritoneal fluid and serum and the severity of endometriosis symptoms. The results showed that the concentration of ENA-78 was significantly higher in endometriosis patients and correlated with the severity of dysmenorrhea and chronic pelvic pain. This suggests that changes in inflammatory chemokines may contribute to the severity of endometriosis-associated symptoms.

Summary: This systematic literature review found an association between OCD and autoantibodies in rare cases, with some patients benefiting from immunotherapy. Further studies comparing autoantibodies in patients with OCD and healthy controls are needed.

Summary: This study aims to describe the epidemiological characteristics of adult-onset type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) and detail its clinical, paraclinical, and therapeutic features. The study found that adult-onset T1DM patients have a slower onset, less abrupt symptoms, more insidious presentation, and more prolonged progression to insulin. Therefore, misdiagnosis of adult-onset T1DM can have serious consequences.

Summary: The study found that weight loss induced by bariatric surgery can reduce systemic inflammation, decrease B cell activity, lower levels of B cell activating factors, and improve inflammatory markers.

Summary: The study identified five novel autoantibody-binding patterns on brain tissue of patients with schizophreniform and affective syndromes. Positive findings were more frequently observed in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) analysis compared to serum analysis. The frequency and spectrum of autoantibodies in these patient groups may be broader than previously thought.

Summary: GzmK and GzmA can activate PAR1 and PAR2, influencing cell signaling cascades and leading to the release of inflammatory cytokines. This suggests that GzmK acts as a pro-inflammatory regulator during immune responses.

Summary: This study reveals that the production of Neutrophil Extracellular Traps (NETs) is a major strategy employed by polymorphonuclear neutrophils (PMNs) to fight against microbes. The study finds that there is an increased accumulation of NETs in sepsis-associated acute lung injury (SI-ALI) patients and mice, along with the upregulation of ferroptosis. The findings also demonstrate the critical role of METTL3-induced m(6)A modification of GPX4 in the induction of ferroptosis in ALI.

Summary: Granzyme K (GzmK) and GzmA can activate PAR1 and PAR2, and are involved in inflammatory response and cell signaling cascade. Despite cleaving PAR2 at the same point as trypsin, GzmK activates a distinct signaling pathway instead of the classical Ca2+ flux. In epithelial cells, GzmK induces the release of inflammatory cytokines through the activation of PAR2.

Summary: Research shows that serum neural autoantibodies may be linked to psychiatric symptoms in both adults and children. Understanding the significance of these autoantibodies in children could have implications for the development and treatment of psychiatric disorders later in life. This narrative review identifies specific psychiatric disorders associated with serum neural autoantibodies in children and suggests a potential autoimmune origin for certain psychiatric symptoms, proposing a diagnostic pathway based on recent guidelines.

Summary: Neutrophil extracellular traps play a crucial role in capturing and killing pathogens involved in the inflammatory process, and may also drive the pathogenesis of autoimmune diseases. Research has summarized the potential of neutrophil extracellular traps in the pathogenesis of rheumatoid arthritis, and discussed their applications in diagnosis and treatment.

Summary: This study evaluated the perception of Brazilian rheumatologists on the BCA recommendations for detection of autoantibodies in HEp-2 cells. The majority of rheumatologists were satisfied with the BCA guidelines and believed that they positively impact clinical practice by helping interpret the results of the HEp-2 IFA test.
