Summary: This study investigated the relationships between routine and compensatory restraints and body mass index (BMI) among Chinese adults. It also explored the mediating role of emotional and external eating in these relationships. The findings showed that routine restraint was associated with higher BMI both directly and indirectly through emotional eating. Compensatory restraint was only indirectly related to higher BMI through emotional eating.

Summary: This study aimed to develop a scale to measure a wide range of functions of binge eating within binge-eating disorder (BED), and investigate the relationship between these functions and adverse childhood experiences. The results revealed that the functions of binge eating include emotion regulation, hedonic hunger, compensatory eating, numbness/dissociation, emotion expression, self-punishment, control, and self-protection. The scale demonstrated good reliability and validity, highlighting the predictive role of childhood maltreatment in binge eating functions.

Summary: This study evaluated the dietary food groups, nutrient intakes, and eating behaviors of children and adolescents with metabolically healthy or unhealthy obesity phenotypes. The findings showed that children and adolescents with unhealthy obesity consumed less whole grains and polyunsaturated fat, and had lower cognitive dietary restraint. Additionally, the consumption of deep fried food, fast food, and processed convenience food was associated with higher blood pressure. Higher intake of polyunsaturated fat and stronger cognitive dietary restraint were associated with a lower risk of unhealthy obesity phenotype.

Summary: This review systematically examined neuroimaging studies on dysregulated eating behavior associated with excess weight in children and adolescents, suggesting a relationship between eating dysregulation and aberrant functioning within brain regions involved in self-regulatory processes, satiety signaling, and interoception. The study results underscore the potential of studying these neural mechanisms to inform future prevention and intervention strategies.

Summary: Children with ASD exhibit dietary patterns characterized by high energy and fat intake, low intake of vegetables and fruits, and frequent consumption of processed foods with poor nutritional quality, such as beverages, sweets, snacks, and bakery products. Their meat and dairy intake is associated with increased consumption of fish, grains, and pasta. Nutrient adequacy comparisons show higher intake for energy, saturated fat, calcium, and vitamin C, but lower intake for iron, iodine, and B group vitamins in children with ASD compared to control children. This study emphasizes the importance of assessing dietary patterns and nutrient intake in children with ASD to address nutritional deficiencies and prevent potential health issues.

Summary: Evidence suggests that emotional eating and disinhibition play a significant role in the relationship between inadequate sleep and obesity, especially in women. Other eating behaviors, such as external eating, eating competence, and hunger, are also associated with poor sleep outcomes, but may not be determinants of the sleep-obesity association.

Summary: Maternal food addiction, dietary restraint, and pre-pregnancy BMI are each associated with distinct eating behaviors and risk for overweight in early infancy. Maternal food addiction is associated with increased risk for infant overweight, while maternal dietary restraint is negatively associated with maternal report of infant appetite but positively associated with objectively measured infant hedonic response to sucrose. Maternal pre-pregnancy BMI is positively associated with maternal report of infant appetite.

Summary: This study found that the analysis of emotions and coping strategies is important in predicting the psychological well-being of cardiac patients. The results showed that adaptive coping positively predicted positive affect and negatively predicted negative affect, while maladaptive coping had the opposite pattern. These relationships remained even after controlling for functional physical capacity. It is suggested that specific modules to improve coping and emotional state should be included in Cardiac Rehabilitation Programs.
