Remanufacturing can bring considerable economic and environmental benefits such as cost saving, conservation of energy and resources, and reduction of emissions. With the increasing awareness of sustainable manufacturing, remanufacturing gradually becomes the research priority. Most studies concentrate on the analysis of influencing factors, or the evaluation of the economic and environmental performance in remanufacturing, while little effort has been devoted to investigating the critical factors influencing the eco-efficiency of remanufacturing. Considering the current development of the remanufacturing industry in China, this paper proposes a set of factors influencing the eco-efficiency of remanufacturing and then utilizes a fuzzy Decision Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory (DEMATEL) method to establish relation matrixes reflecting the interdependent relationships among these factors. Finally, the contributions of each factor to eco-efficiency and mutual influence values among them are obtained, and critical factors in eco-efficiency of remanufacturing are identified. The results of the present work can provide theoretical supports for the government to make appropriate policies to improve the eco-efficiency of remanufacturing.

Parallel service mode of production and inventory for spare part inventory optimization

Like Zhang, Qianwang Deng, Bingxin Miao, Xiaoyan Liu, Haidong Shao

Summary: Previous studies on inventory adopt a serial supply mode, while this study proposes a parallel service mode to optimize inventory. By introducing virtual warehouses with infinite spare parts, the inventory optimization problem is transformed into a scheduling problem, and an evolutionary algorithm is used to obtain the optimal solution. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm and verify the superiority of the parallel service mode.

Summary: We study the joint scheduling of spare parts production and service engineers in a multi-site maintenance system. A mathematical model is formulated to minimize total outsourcing costs and weighted tardiness. We propose a novel heuristic algorithm, PPAS, and compare it with other well-known algorithms. The effectiveness of the joint scheduling mode is demonstrated by comparing it with the separate optimization mode.

Bilateral matching for collaborative remanufacturing services based on multi-attribute preferences and mutual interactions

Xiahui Liu, Liqun Zhang, Qianwang Deng, Meng Li, Chao Jiang

Summary: The traditional partner selection in reverse logistics focuses on recyclers for remanufacturers, neglecting the selection of remanufactures for recyclers and the mutual matching of the two parties. This study proposes a multi-attribute bilateral matching framework for recycling and remanufacturing services, considering the interdependence among service matching attributes and decision makers' behavior. An integrated methodology is developed to determine service matching satisfaction using grey theory, Best-Worst Method, Decision Making Trial and Evaluation Laboratory, and Interactive and Multi-Criteria Decision Making. A collaboration-oriented bilateral matching model is constructed to maximize matching satisfaction and achieve service synergy between remanufacturers and recyclers. The optimal service matching scheme is obtained using the linear weighting method. The results provide references for optimal allocation of service resources and the transition to collaborative remanufacturing service.

Summary: Previous research has overlooked the arrangement of on-hand inventory saved in the warehouse in the integrated scheduling problems. In this study, we propose a new production-inventory-distribution integrated scheduling problem that considers the production plan, allocation plan of on-hand inventory, and distribution decision simultaneously. We develop a mixed integer linear programming model and a modified NSGA-II algorithm to solve the problem. The proposed integration mode is shown to be effective compared with sequential scheduling methods commonly used in actual production.
