Sustainable energy production and consumption is one of the issues for the sustainable development strategy in China. As China's economic development paradigm shifts, household energy consumption (HEC) has become a focus of achieving national goals of energy efficiency and greenhouse gas reduction. The information entropy model and LMDI model were employed in this study in order to analyse the structural evolution of HEC, as well as its associated critical factors. The results indicate that the information entropy of HEC increased gradually, and coal will be reduced by clean energies, such as natural gas and liquefied petroleum gas. The information entropy tends to stabilize and converge due to rapid urbanization. Therefore, from the perspective of environmental protection and natural resource conservation, the structure of household energy consumption will be optimized. This study revealed that residents' income level is one of the most critical factors for the increase of energy consumption, while the energy intensity is the only driving force for the reduction of HEC. The accumulated contribution of these two factors to the HEC is 240.53% and -161.75%, respectively. It is imperative to improve the energy efficiency in the residential sector. Recommendations are provided to improve the energy efficiency-related technologies, as well as the standards for the sustainable energy strategy.

Green supply chain management for a more sustainable manufacturing industry in China: a critical review

Xuerou Sheng, Leping Chen, Xueliang Yuan, Yuzhou Tang, Qian Yuan, Rong Chen, Qingsong Wang, Qiao Ma, Jian Zuo, Hongwei Liu

Summary: Green supply chain management (GSCM) has remarkable potential to support China's carbon neutrality target. However, the review and analysis of relevant policies reveal challenges in terms of multi-departmental collaboration and the existing legal system. Suggestions are proposed for improvement. The overall picture of GSCM in China can serve as a valuable reference for other developing countries.

Investigation of the social and economic impacts of cross-regional mobility of construction and demolition waste in Australia

Huanyu Wu, Jian Zuo, Hongping Yuan, George Zillante, Jiayuan Wang

Summary: A large amount of Construction and Demolition (C&D) waste in Australia has been transported across states and countries for landfilling or recycling, which has affected the performance of the waste management sector. However, there is a lack of practical methods to evaluate the impacts. This study develops a method to evaluate the economic and social impacts of the cross-regional mobility of C&D waste in Australia.

Determinants of contractor?s construction and demolition waste recycling intention in China: Integrating theory of planned behavior and norm activation model

Zhikun Ding, Xinping Wen, Jian Zuo, Yiyang Chen

Summary: This study investigates the determinants of the contractor's intention to recycle construction and demolition waste (CDW) by establishing an integrative model of the theory of planned behavior (TPB) and the norm activation model (NAM) with rational and moral considerations. The results show that personal norms are the most critical determinant enhancing the CDW recycling intention, followed by perceived behavioral control. These findings provide useful insights for the government to develop effective management strategies to motivate CDW recycling intention of contractors.

How to further develop the integrated planting and breeding mode: A case study of the western region of Shandong Province

Yuan Xu, Guangrui Wang, Shuo Yang, Mingqiang Liu, Qingsong Wang, Shu Tian, Yujie Zhang, Yue Xu, Xueliang Yuan, Qiao Ma, Haichao Ma, Huibin Zhang

Summary: This study focuses on the development of sustainable agriculture in China and analyzes the factors influencing the implementation of circular agriculture in western Shandong Province. The structural equation model constructed and tested using AMOS software reveals the interaction mechanisms between variables. Data was collected through questionnaires and field surveys, and analyzed using SPSS and AMOS software. The top five key factors affecting the advancement of the model are government policy encouragement, preferential agricultural loans support, participation of specialized agricultural organizations, estimated revenue of the mode, and farmers' awareness of environmental protection.

Transnational recycling of Australian export waste: An exploratory study

Linwei Du, Jian Zuo, Kyle O'Farrell, Ruidong Chang, George Zillante, Liancheng Li

Summary: Transnational recycling of waste can have significant environmental and economic impacts, but current studies mainly focus on waste-importing countries. This study uses Australian export waste data to analyze the transnational recycling from the perspective of waste-exporting countries. The results show that exported waste is not fully recycled and there is no significant relationship between environmental factors and the destination of waste exports. It is recommended for waste-exporting and -importing countries to work together to track data and better understand the environmental impacts.
