Summary: This study assesses the impact of high greenhouse gas scenario and stratospheric aerosol geoengineering (SAG) scenario on extreme precipitation and temperature in West Africa. The results indicate that SAG could effectively maintain surface temperatures at present day conditions, while extreme precipitation shows a mixed pattern of increase and decrease in different regions.

Impact of Stratospheric Geoengineering on Sea Surface Temperature in the Northern Gulf of Guinea

Summary: This study assesses the potential impact of Stratospheric Aerosol Geoengineering (SAG) on Sea Surface Temperature (SST) in the Northern Gulf of Guinea. Results show that under climate change, SST increases in the Sassandra Upwelling region due to an increase in net heat flux and weak vertical mixing. Under SAG, SST decreases all year long in both the Sassandra Upwelling and Takoradi Upwelling regions due to changes in net heat flux and vertical advection.
