Summary: The study aims to establish a risk calculator for predicting the individualized risk for suicide attempts in early-onset bipolar disorder. The researchers selected readily assessed predictors from the literature and trained the risk calculator using boosted multinomial classification trees. The results show that the risk calculator holds promise for prospective identification of high-risk periods for suicide attempts in individuals with early-onset bipolar disorder.

Summary: Current evidence suggests a bidirectional relationship between cannabis use, CUD, and the onset of depression, with cannabis use more consistently preceding the onset of bipolar disorder. Shared neurocognitive mechanisms and underlying genetic and environmental risk factors may explain part of the association, while further studies are needed to understand causal pathways and potential mechanisms for optimizing harm reduction and treatment strategies for individuals with comorbid cannabis use and mood disorders.

Summary: The study found that psychiatric comorbidities and suicide attempts are highly prevalent in patients with Bipolar Disorder, and childhood maltreatment is associated with this. Patients with higher levels of childhood maltreatment are more likely to have multiple psychiatric comorbidities, which accumulate more rapidly before the onset of the disorder.

Summary: This review examines the impact of medication on neuroimaging findings in pediatric bipolar disorder (PBD). The results show that medication primarily affects the prefrontal cortex and amygdala, and has the potential to normalize brain structure and function in key mood-regulating regions.

Summary: In high-risk adolescents, self-rated risk can predict the recurrence of suicide attempts, while borderline personality disorder and depressive symptoms cannot. Greater depression severity diminishes the predictive value of self-ratings.

Summary: This study investigated the relationship between lifetime suicide attempts and clinical factors/biochemical parameters in a large sample of bipolar patients. The results showed that bipolar patients with lifetime suicide attempts present unfavorable clinical features, and certain biochemical characteristics may serve as potential markers of suicidal behavior.

Summary: This study used data from BD hospitalizations to investigate the association between Cannabis Use Disorder (CUD) and medication nonadherence in patients with Bipolar Disorder. The research found a significant relationship between CUD and medication noncompliance among BD patients, highlighting the importance of collaboration between psychiatric and addiction services in improving patient outcomes.

Summary: The study aimed to investigate the relationship between rumination and suicide attempts, finding that both global rumination levels and reflection were higher in suicide attempters than non-suicide attempters; the results suggest that rumination may be a risk factor for suicide attempts.

Summary: This study found that cannabis use is associated with differences in regional brain structure among adolescents with BD. Adolescents with BD and cannabis use showed larger volume and surface area in parietal regions, while those without cannabis use had smaller volume, surface area, and thickness in both parietal and frontal regions. Future studies are needed to determine the direction and dose effects of this association.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the differences in the prevalence and clinical correlates of suicide attempts between early- and late-onset major depressive disorder (MDD) patients in China. The results showed a higher prevalence of suicide attempts in late-onset MDD patients, and these attempts were associated with clinical characteristics such as anxiety, mood, and psychotic symptoms. This suggests that there are differences in suicide risk between early- and late-onset MDD.

Summary: This study differentiates the unique effects of different types of early maltreatment on psychopathology, particularly mood disorders and psychotic symptoms, as well as histories of suicide attempts among psychiatrically hospitalized children and youth. The results showed direct and indirect relationships between various forms of abuse and history of suicide attempts, with mediation by bipolar disorders and psychotic symptoms.

Summary: This study explored the relationship between suicide attempts and brain imaging measures in bipolar disorder, finding differences in brain activation and metabolism associated with suicide attempts. The study also revealed that the number of suicide attempts was related to differences in brain regions, indicating different neurobiological underpinnings for suicide history and number of attempts.

Summary: Research shows that patients with serious mental illnesses are more likely to use cannabis and may be diagnosed with cannabis use disorder. While some studies suggest that cannabis may help treat mental illnesses, there are also negative consequences. Preclinical animal models are important for studying the causal effects of cannabis.

The results suggest that the opioid crisis may have contributed to an increase in suicidal thoughts among the population.

Summary: The study found that support for tobacco control measures remains stable in EU countries, especially for measures to further regulate tobacco products and hold tobacco companies accountable for harm caused by smoking. Additionally, a significant percentage of smokers are willing to support a future ban on tobacco products, provided that assistance to quit smoking is provided by the government.

Summary: This systematic review explores the relationship between childhood maltreatment, specifically physical and sexual abuse, and adolescent cannabis use. The results suggest that childhood maltreatment may increase the risk of adolescent cannabis use. While some studies considered variations in the timing of cannabis initiation and gender differences, further exploration of the role of adolescent cannabis use in the causal pathway between childhood abuse and adult mental health problems is needed.

Summary: This study found that the majority of European adults, including a large proportion of smokers, are supportive of implementing smoke-free legislation in indoor settings and extending it to selected outdoor settings. Support for smoke-free legislation is primarily influenced by the countries' prevalence of secondhand smoke exposure and reported smoking in each setting.
