Summary: The COVID-19 pandemic has emphasized the importance of prioritizing health equity in future health system and primary care reforms. Strengthening primary care is necessary to address the mistreatment of certain ethnic groups and healthcare workers, as well as the disparities in healthcare access and outcomes that have been further amplified by the pandemic.

Summary: This study evaluated the impact of the Family Physician Plan and Health Transformation Plan on hospitalization rate in Iran. It found that the Family Physician Plan led to a decreasing trend in hospitalization, while the Health Transformation Plan significantly increased hospitalization rates. Therefore, integrated health policies are needed to optimize the implementation of reforms in low and middle-income countries.

Summary: 29 studies suggest that PCP's clinical judgement of symptoms influences decisions to investigate cancer, with 'alarm' symptoms prompting more investigations. Female PCPs investigated cancer more than male PCPs. PCP interpretation of symptoms facilitates testing and referral decisions for possible cancer.

Summary: Frequently hospitalised patients value involvement of primary care physicians (PCPs) in the hospital setting, with longitudinal continuity with PCPs being important. Opportunities to enhance PCP involvement during hospitalisation should be considered, as established relationships with PCPs can improve interdisciplinary coordination and patient engagement in decision making.

Summary: Previous research has shown that female physicians spend more time than male physicians in the electronic health record (EHR). This study aimed to examine gender differences in EHR usage among primary care physicians and identify potential causes for those differences. The findings indicate that female primary care physicians spend more time working in the EHR and receive more staff and patient messages compared to their male colleagues.

Summary: This qualitative study explores the experiences of patients with multiple persistent symptoms or high health anxiety when interacting with their physicians. The study highlights the importance of a therapeutic alliance between patients and physicians in primary care, and identifies helpful attitudes and actions as well as troublesome topics that influence this relationship. The findings suggest that focusing on actions and attitudes that promote collaboration and mutual respect can lead to positive outcomes for these patients.

Summary: This study compares the factors considered by primary care physicians when making prescription medication recommendations vs referral recommendations for surgery. The findings reveal that physicians rely on objective data and patient attributes for medication recommendations, while subjective factors, such as personal experience and beliefs, play a dominant role in surgeon and hospital referrals. Introducing accessible and reliable surgical data is crucial for improving the referral process and surgical outcomes.

Summary: The study explores the response of primary care physicians (PCPs) to integrative physician (IP) consultations and recommended integrative oncology (IO) treatment programs. The study found that PCPs were more likely to respond if the patient was Hebrew-speaking and their responses included addressing the patient's medical condition, quality of life concerns, patient-centered reflections, available resources, and attitudes towards the treatment program. Therefore, promoting communication between PCPs and IP can be significant in improving patient outcomes from IO treatment programs.

Summary: Primary care is a service industry where suppliers with limited capacity often face fluctuating demand levels. In order to cope with this challenge, physicians have to trade off their time spent with patients with other activities. However, the study shows that diagnostic inputs are unlikely to adequately compensate for the decrease in time spent with patients.

Summary: This study examines whether primary care practices serving high proportions of Black or Latino Medicare fee-for-service beneficiaries are less likely to participate in the CPC+ program. The results show that practices with relatively high proportions of Black and Latino beneficiaries are less likely to participate in CPC+ compared to practices with lower proportions. State differences partially explain participation disparities for practices with high proportions of Black beneficiaries, but do not explain disparities for practices with high proportions of Latino beneficiaries.

Summary: Family health history is essential in genetic medicine, and the language and patterns of communication regarding family health history were explored in interactions between general practitioners and patients. Most conversations about family health history were initiated by the GP and lasted for approximately 1 to 2 minutes. Patients responded to inquiries about family health history in either a non-specific or specific manner, often including explanations about family dynamics.
