Summary: This study evaluated the effect of moderate-intensity statin with ezetimibe combination therapy versus high-intensity statin monotherapy among patients with diabetes mellitus and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease. The study found that the combination therapy had similar outcomes in terms of cardiovascular events compared to the monotherapy, but had a higher rate of intolerance-related discontinuation or dose reduction. However, the combination therapy was more effective in achieving lower LDL cholesterol levels.

Summary: This study aimed to explore the actual therapeutic effect and rebound situation of dapagliflozin on glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) in patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus. A total of 1,594 patients were enrolled and analyzed using a non-linear mixed effect model. The results showed no significant difference in HbA1c reduction between the 5 mg/day and 10 mg/day dapagliflozin dosage groups. It was also observed that there was a rebound effect on HbA1c when dapagliflozin reached its maximum efficacy, and the efficacy decreased with continued treatment.

Summary: The study aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of a novel DPP-4 inhibitor, fotagliptin, in treatment-naive patients with T2DM. The results demonstrated that fotagliptin was non-inferior to alogliptin in improving glycemic control, with significantly more patients in the fotagliptin and alogliptin groups achieving HbA1c < 7.0% after 24 weeks of treatment.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the utility of HbA1c in the early detection of gestational diabetes in the first trimester. The results showed that first-trimester HbA1c cannot replace OGTT for the diagnosis of GDM due to its insufficient sensitivity and specificity. However, women with higher first-trimester HbA1c had a higher risk of developing GDM.

Summary: This study investigated the relationship between CGM metrics and laboratory HbA(1c) in pregnant women with type 1 diabetes. It found a moderate correlation between HbA(1c) and TIR3.5-7.8 during pregnancy. To achieve an HbA(1c) target of less than 6.0%, pregnant women with type 1 diabetes should strive for a TIR3.5-7.8 of greater than 78% during pregnancy.

Summary: This study aims to compare N-glycan changes in adults with type 1 diabetes to those in children and investigate their associations with disease duration, complications, glycaemic status, and smoking. Results showed differences in 19 glycan groups between type 1 diabetes patients and healthy controls, with a decrease in monogalactosylation and an increase in digalactosylation, monosialylation, and antennary fucosylation. HbA1c was positively associated with sialylation and highly branched structures. The study suggests the involvement of N-glycome in different stages of type 1 diabetes.

Summary: This study used a population-based cohort to investigate the relationship between statin treatment and cardiovascular risk in T1D patients. The results showed that statin use was associated with a reduced risk of cardiovascular events, particularly ischemic stroke and myocardial infarction. The risk of cardiovascular events decreased as the cumulative exposure duration of statins increased.

Summary: This study aimed to identify the risk factors associated with hypothyroidism and assess the relationship between hypothyroidism and hypertension in patients with diabetes. The study found a higher prevalence of diabetes mellitus among patients with hypertension, and subclinical hypothyroid subjects need to be frequently screened for hypertension. Summary: ESRD patients on RRT have a high risk of HCAIs, with catheter related bloodstream infection being the most common type of infection. Both Gram positive and Gram negative pathogens were found to be prevalent. The use of multiple accesses, elevated blood sugar levels, low serum sodium levels, and higher CRP concentration were associated with increased occurrence of HCAIs. Preventive strategies and optimal antibiotic therapy should be utilized to reduce the risk of these infections among ESRD patients.

Summary: Most studies on obesity prevalence rely on actual weight and height measurements, but self-reported measures have been shown to be reliable alternatives. This study investigates the accuracy and reliability of self-reported weight and height among adults in Malaysia. The results indicate substantial agreement between self-reported and measured values, with accurate BMI classification for 88.53% of participants. Therefore, self-reported measures may be useful for tracking and estimating population trends in Malaysian adults.

Summary: Discharge bundles aim to optimize patient outcomes for those hospitalized with exacerbation of COPD. Although previous studies suggest their effectiveness, inconsistencies in content and implementation have been observed. To ensure high-quality care and reduce readmission rates, a comprehensive discharge protocol is proposed, along with strategies to address implementation barriers. By utilizing successful implementation strategies from other disease areas, discharge bundles can be delivered more effectively to improve patient outcomes and ensure continuity of care.

The findings showed that although Asian adults in the community were willing to engage in ACP, their awareness and uptake of ACP remained low. Background factors such as sociodemographic factors and health status, as well as underlying beliefs and attitudes towards ACP, were found to influence their uptake of ACP.

Summary: This paper uses the method of photovoice and design thinking to empathize with the challenges of asthma management and create innovative solutions. A one-day workshop was organized by SingHealth Polyclinics in Singapore, where healthcare providers discussed and ideated on the challenges and enablers of good asthma care. The study found that the use of photovoice and a multidisciplinary team format with patient involvement were highly favored. Participants' feedback indicated that the workshop effectively generated ideas and drove innovation in asthma care.

Summary: This study explores the views and experiences of patients with high cardiovascular risk on online health information-seeking about statins, and how this information influences their decisions. The results suggest that patients need different types of online health information throughout their disease trajectory, and unintentional passive exposure to online health information has an influence on patients' adherence to statins. The quality of patient-doctor communication in relation to online health information-seeking behavior remains critical for patient decision-making.
