Summary: This study investigated the prevalence of Metabolic Syndrome (MetS) among Jiarong Tibetans in Aba Plateau, identified three major dietary patterns (traditional Tibetan, urbanized, and healthy), and found a significant association between the healthy dietary pattern and a lower risk of MetS. No significant statistical association was found between the risk of MetS and the traditional Tibetan and urbanized diet patterns.

Summary: This study presents the clinical experience of patients with Blau syndrome (BS) at a tertiary care centre in Chandigarh, North India. BS is a rare autoinflammatory disease characterized by arthritis, dermatitis, and granulomatous uveitis in early childhood. The study found that uveitis is often progressive and refractory to currently available therapies, and systemic involvement remains a significant cause of morbidity and mortality.

Summary: The distribution and ecological risk of trace metals were studied in an urbanized mangrove ecosystem in India. The results showed that Cd, Pb, and Zn were enriched in the upper sediments, while Cd, Ni, and Zn were present in exchangeable forms. The study area had moderate to strong pollution of Cd and Zn, while other metals were unpolluted to moderately polluted.

Summary: The study conducted among a largely vegetarian population from North India found that depression is a multi-factorial condition with higher rates among females. Folate deficiency and hyperhomocysteinemia were identified as potential risk factors for moderate/severe depression. Folate repletion was found to play a compensatory role for vitamin B12 deficiency in depressed individuals.

Summary: This study aimed to assess snack behavior and its associations with metabolic risk factors in Indian adults. The findings showed that savory snacks were the most preferred and snack consumption was higher in urban areas and among women. Frequent consumers of snacks had a higher risk of obesity, indicating the need for promoting healthier food options to reduce snacking and associated metabolic risk.

Summary: The prevalence of intra-abdominal adipose tissue (IAAT) and total abdominal fat (TAF) is significantly high in the district of Puducherry, with almost all overweight/obese individuals being metabolically unhealthy and only a small percentage of those with normal BMI being metabolically healthy. This emphasizes the importance of population-based health promotion interventions, especially in urban areas and among women in the district.

Summary: The study found that coliphages are good indicators of RVA in the winter, while both coliphages and coliforms need to be monitored in the summer and monsoon seasons for predicting the presence of RVA with confidence. Principal component analysis and binary logistic regression confirmed MS2 as a better indicator of RVA, showing a strong positive correlation particularly in winter.

Summary: This paper examines the energy and groundwater irrigation nexus in a highly irrigated ecosystem of north western India. The study reveals that electric tube-wells consume a significant amount of electricity and account for a large proportion of total subsidies disbursed. The area irrigated by tube-wells has significantly increased. Rice and sugarcane crops are the main consumers of energy. The study also shows that the use factor of tube-wells is much higher during kharif season compared to rabi season. Farmers in this region have achieved high economic productivity in all crops except for rice.

Summary: Habitat fragmentation and migration barriers have led to the decline of European eel population. A study was conducted to investigate the migration patterns of silver eels in the North Sea Canal basin using acoustic telemetry and mark-recapture methods. It was found that 55% of silver eels passed barriers between polders and canals, and 46% passed the barrier complex at IJmuiden to reach the sea. Silver eel escapement to the North Sea averaged 81,629 individuals per year, with 14.3% mortality at the pumping station in IJmuiden. The study highlighted the importance of addressing barriers and implementing mitigation measures for eel management.

Summary: The study assessed and classified schools in a northern city of India for accreditation as health promoting schools and compared the health profiles of higher accredited schools with lower accredited and non-accredited schools. The results showed that the health promoting school program was feasible and effective, leading to significant improvement in accreditation levels. The health profile of children in higher accredited schools was better compared to lower accredited schools.

Summary: This study used secondary data from the National Nutrition Survey conducted in 2016-18 to identify a strong association between obesogenic diet and metabolic syndrome in Indian adolescents. The study utilized an unsupervised learning algorithm to determine possible clusters based on dietary patterns and analyzed the characteristics of each cluster. The findings suggest that controlling obesogenic dietary practices and addressing micronutrient deficiencies can prevent the burden of metabolic syndrome in early ages.

Summary: Despite the availability of a safe and effective COVID-19 vaccine for children, vaccination rates remain low. Factors such as routine childhood vaccination, receiving the seasonal influenza vaccine, parents' perception of COVID-19 severity in children, and the safety and effectiveness of the vaccine are associated with higher vaccine acceptance. Vaccine hesitancy remains a major issue, but clear recommendations from primary care providers and more information from trusted websites can help decrease hesitancy.

Summary: COVID-19 infection in pediatric population usually leads to mild illness, but a rare but serious complication called MIS-C has been observed in children. Recent reports suggest that vaccination for COVID-19 significantly reduces the prevalence and risk of MIS-C in children aged 6 months and above. Vaccination for COVID-19 during pregnancy is safe and recommended, as it can prevent severe maternal illness and adverse birth outcomes. Maternal vaccinations have been shown to protect infants against infections during the first 6 months of life, and maternal COVID-19 vaccination leads to the presence of anti-spike protein antibodies in infants, even at 6 months of age. Completion of a 2-dose primary mRNA COVID-19 vaccination series during pregnancy is associated with reduced risk of COVID-19-associated hospitalization among infants aged 6 months or less. Therefore, it is plausible that maternal COVID-19 vaccination can reduce the risk and severity of MIS-C in infants.
