Summary: People diagnosed with AvPD have significant impairments in their sense of agency due to emotional awareness, imbalances between inhibiting and activating emotions, and difficulties regulating emotions. Difficulties also seem to be related to high levels of attachment avoidance and fear, creating strong ambivalence in social needs, as well as a strong tendency to subordinate to others. A weak sense of self with a poor narrative, self-doubt, and harsh self-critique makes it increasingly difficult for these individuals to take a reflexive and intentional stand.

Summary: Interpersonal problems are significant challenges for individuals with personality disorders, especially Avoidant and Borderline PDs. Results from the study suggest that Avoidant PD symptoms are indirectly associated with social dysfunction through cold and overly nurturant interpersonal problems, while Borderline PD symptoms are only indirectly associated with social dysfunction through overly nurturant interpersonal problems. These findings may guide the development of more personalized treatments for AvPD and BPD symptoms.

Summary: The community prevalence of avoidant personality disorder (AVPD) ranges from 0.8% to 5%, with a lifetime rate of 9.3% in women over 25 years. The heritability of AVPD ranges from 0.18 to 0.56, with an average of 0.55. Despite its single factor structure, AVPD is often underdiagnosed and undertreated, highlighting the importance of recognizing and addressing this clinical issue.

Summary: The aim of this study is to develop the social distancing phobia scale and examine the role of generalized anxiety disorder in predicting social distancing phobia and perceived stress. The sample consisted of 1260 individuals selected through convenience sampling. The results revealed a 17-item scale with three factors: physiological, emotional, and behavioral response. This scale, with its psychometric properties, contributes to a better understanding of emotions and psychological disorders during the COVID-19 pandemic. Furthermore, generalized anxiety disorder was found to be a significant predictor for perceived stress and social distancing phobia.

Summary: Avoidant personality disorder (AvPD) is a severe but understudied disorder. This study of 460 AvPD patients found that more extensive impairment of social functioning at baseline was significantly associated with poorer personality functioning, occupational inactivity, and a larger number of comorbid PD traits and symptom disorders. Persistent impairment of functioning was associated with living alone, but improvement in social functioning was not impeded by baseline severity aspects.

Summary: ObjectiveAvoidant Personality Disorder (AvPD) is a common disorder with significant psychosocial impairment, yet it has been neglected in research. This pilot study investigated a combined group and individual therapy program for AvPD patients, based on mentalization-based and metacognitive interpersonal therapy. The results showed promising outcomes, but larger scale studies are needed to develop more specific treatments for different levels of AvPD severity and personality dysfunction profiles.

Summary: Understanding the origins of social avoidance is one of the most challenging tasks in assessing whether adolescents and young adults are at risk for developing schizophrenia. A phenomenological approach helps distinguish the Gestalt of social avoidance among different mental disorders, ensuring correct diagnosis and optimal treatment.

Summary: This study examines the differences between vulnerable narcissism and avoidant personality. The findings suggest that individuals with vulnerable narcissism and avoidant personality may exhibit similar characteristics under neutral conditions, but they differ in their response to positive social feedback. Avoidant personalities benefit from positive feedback while vulnerable narcissism shows a more negative implicit view of oneself.

Summary: A multifaceted approach was used in this study to identify potential predictors of workplace bullying. The study found that an unfavourable organisational climate and individual personality differences played a role in breeding workplace bullying. The results showed that Type A behavior moderated the relationship between a caring climate and person-related bullying, and there were significant indirect effects of a caring climate on PTSD through workplace bullying.

Summary: This study explores the interactive effect of parenting behaviors and child temperament on the developmental trajectory of social anxiety from age 9 to 15. Results suggest that highly inhibited children benefit from high supportive and low dismissive parenting, while children low in behavioral inhibition benefit more from high dismissive parenting.
