Summary: Nucleic acid drugs, such as antisense oligonucleotides (ASOs), have shown great potential as therapeutics for intractable diseases. However, their current administration via injection can negatively impact patient quality of life. This study introduces a transdermal delivery method using lipid-based ionic liquid surfactants, which enhance the skin permeation and intracellular delivery of ASOs. In vitro and in vivo experiments demonstrate the effectiveness of this approach in inhibiting tumor growth.

Summary: This study investigated the use of multispectral Sentinel-2 imagery to map the extent and distribution of invasive Tamarix in three riparian ecosystems in the Western Cape Province of South Africa. Random forest and support vector machine algorithms were used to classify and estimate the spatial distribution of Tamarix and other land-cover types. The results showed that these methods were effective in accurately mapping the invasive Tamarix genotypes and distinguishing them from other land-cover types.

Summary: Dissolving microneedle (DMN) has been developed for efficient drug delivery through the skin. However, the slow drug absorption, poor skin dissolution, and lengthy time lags of DMN limit its potential uses. This study designed a novel DMN system, known as E2-EM-DMN, for the administration of estradiol with fast skin penetration and sustained release. E2-EM-DMN showed superior release performance and good pharmaceutical stability, making it an ideal transdermal delivery system for drugs.

Summary: We conducted a study on ischemic stroke using the PAUSAT system, which combines photoacoustic computed tomography (PACT), high-frequency ultrasound imaging, and acoustic angiographic tomography. PAUSAT enables three-dimensional imaging of brain morphology, blood perfusion, and blood oxygenation. By studying two common ischemic stroke models in mice, we identified spatially heterogeneous hemodynamic changes in blood perfusion and oxygenation, as well as quantified tissue infarct volume. The results showed that PAUSAT is a valuable non-invasive tool for longitudinal studies of neurological diseases at the whole-brain scale.

Summary: Experimental and numerical studies on convective drying of capillary porous media under slow isothermal conditions show that capillary liquid rings near particle-particle contacts significantly accelerate the drying process, act as additional hydraulic pathways, and lead to a spatially homogeneous distribution of liquid down to low saturation, providing valuable insights for complex multiphase flow phenomena in porous media.

Summary: This study develops a quasi-one-dimensional modeling method for LMMHD power generation channels based on a two-fluid model. The performance variation laws with the geometric structure, magnetic field, and boundary conditions are investigated. Results show that optimal or appropriate designs can be achieved by optimizing the channel geometry and magnetic field. However, balancing power output and efficiency through boundary condition optimization is challenging. Gas-liquid slip is the main cause of energy losses, making the elimination and suppression of slip effects a significant research focus.

Summary: This study used cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) to evaluate dentoskeletal changes in minimally invasive surgically assisted rapid palatal expansion (SARPE). The results showed a statistically significant increase in the linear transverse dimensions of the maxilla, as well as dental inclination to the buccal aspect. However, significant expansion of the maxilla at the skeletal and dentoalveolar levels was confirmed.

Summary: In this study, the aerial parts of the meadowsweet plant were extensively analyzed using NMR-based dereplication strategy, resulting in the identification of 28 compounds. It was found that certain components in the meadowsweet extract can enhance skin barrier function and promote skin renewal. This research has the potential to provide a natural solution for improving hydration and skin renewal properties.

Summary: We introduce a platform for manipulating sessile droplets on a light-absorbing surface using localized laser irradiation. The manipulation is achieved through solutocapillary Marangoni flow caused by a concentration gradient in a binary mixture liquid. The two-dimensional confinement of the mixture enables stable formation, deformation, and transport of the droplet. Additionally, we present a method to sustain the droplet in the absence of laser irradiation by bridging it between the top and bottom walls of a slit.

Summary: A novel method is proposed in this article to measure the gas-liquid flow rate in slug flow based on the one-to-one correspondence between differential pressure fluctuations and the movement of Taylor bubbles and liquid slugs. The flow characteristics and the gas-liquid ratio were quantitatively analyzed by experiments, and the gas and liquid flow rates were predicted based on the measured flow characteristics. Experimental tests showed that the proposed method and correlations were effective, with average relative errors of 5.50% and 5.62% for gas and liquid flow rates, respectively.

Summary: Sensor-integrated wound dressings provide quantitative insights into tissue characteristics and enable easy monitoring of wound healing. This study presents a cost-effective method to quantify oxygen and pH in a hydrogel dressing using a single photograph. The luminescence of a dendritic polyamine Pt-porphyrin and fluorescein conjugate responds to oxygen and pH, respectively, and can be captured using a modified DSLR camera for image analysis.

Summary: Early diagnosis of brachial plexus injuries is crucial to prevent long-term morbidity and improve outcomes. This case report highlights a unique case of delayed onset of brachial plexus compression following a traumatic gunshot injury. The patient experienced significant pain and progressive neurological changes during follow-up visits, leading to the discovery of a left subclavian artery pseudoaneurysm. Management through operative intervention was successful.
