Summary: Sodium-rich coals are suitable raw materials for direct coal liquefaction, but sodium species can reduce oil yield. Thermal treatment with organic solvents, such as tetralin, can increase surface area and hydrogen content in coals, leading to higher oil yields. Tetralin treatment is more effective in promoting the transformation of exchangeable sodium species, resulting in a significant increase in oil yield during direct liquefaction.

Summary: The processing of olives generates a significant by-product called olive pomace, which contains bioactive compounds that are beneficial to human health. In this study, olive oil was successfully extracted from olive pomace using a solvent extractor with hexane as the solvent. Response surface methodology with central composite design was employed to determine the optimal parameters, resulting in a maximum oil yield of 12%.

Summary: In this study, hardwood and softwood lignins were used to produce bio-polyols for the synthesis of rigid and elastic polyurethanes. The reaction parameters were optimized using response surface methodology, and the effects of catalyst concentration, temperature, and Polyethylene glycol/Glycerol weight ratio on the properties of bio-polyols were evaluated. The optimal reaction conditions for rigid polyurethanes were similar for both lignins, while the conditions for elastic polyurethanes varied depending on the lignin used. The bio-polyols obtained at optimized conditions were fully characterized.

Summary: The study investigates the flotation of low-rank coal using a composite collector through a combined theoretical and experimental approach. It is found that a 3:1 mixture of dodecane and castor oil acid achieves a maximum flotation mass recovery of 82.89%. The adsorption of castor oil acid onto the coal surface enhances the hydrophobicity of the coal, improving its flotation.

Summary: A novel emulsified waste fried oil collector (EWFOC) was prepared and compared to common collector (diesel) and waste fried oil collector (WFOC) in flotation experiments on low-rank coal. EWFOC showed better flotation performance, leading to a significant reduction in WFOC dosage and improved hydrophobicity of the coal. The improved performance of EWFOC is attributed to its stable dispersion and attachment to coal particles.

Summary: In this study, the performance of anaerobic digestion process was evaluated using supervised Machine Learning algorithms. Artificial neural network model was found to be superior to response surface methodology model in modeling methane yield and H2S concentration. Temperature and recirculation ratio were identified as the main interactive factors affecting methane yield. Process optimization using response surface methodology identified the optimum operating conditions resulting in the highest methane yield and the least H2S concentration. Sensitivity analysis revealed the substantial role of recirculation ratio in yielding more methane.

Summary: This study investigated the efficiency of activated carbons (ACs) produced from banana pseudo-stem, iron oxide nanocomposite (IOAC), and iron oxide nanoparticles (IONPs) for removal of COD, DOC, and color from landfill leachate. The results showed that increasing the bed height improved the removal efficiency of COD, DOC, and color. The adsorption kinetics followed the pseudosecond-order model, and the adsorption process showed good linearity in the three isotherm models.
