To explore the function of PPAR gamma in the goat mammary gland, we cloned the whole cDNA of the PPAR gamma gene. Homology alignments revealed that the goat PPAR gamma gene is conserved among goat, bovine, mouse, and human. Luciferase assays revealed that rosiglitazone enhanced the activity of the PPAR gamma response element (PPRE) in goat mammary epithelial cells (GMECs). After rosiglitazone (ROSI) treatment of GMECs, there was a significant (P < 0.05) increase in the expression of genes related to triacylglycerol synthesis and secretion: LPL, FASN, ACACA, PLIN3, FABP3, PLIN2, PNPLA2, NR1H3, SREBF1, and SCD. The decreases in expression observed after knockdown of PPAR gamma relative to the control group (Ad-NC) averaged 65%, 52%, 67%, 55%, 65%, 58%, 85%, 43%, 50%, and 24% for SCD, DGAT1, AGPAT6, SREBF1, ACACA, FASN, FABP3, SCAP, ATGL, and PLIN3, respectively. These results provide direct evidence that PPAR gamma plays a crucial role in regulating the triacylglycerol synthesis and secretion in goat mammary cells and underscore the functional importance of PPAR gamma in mammary gland tissue during lactation.

Gigahertz Acoustic Delay Lines in Lithium Niobate on Silicon Carbide With Propagation-Q of 11174

Pengcheng Zheng, Shibin Zhang, Yang Chen, Liping Zhang, Jinbo Wu, Hulin Yao, Xiaoli Fang, Xiaomeng Zhao, Kai Huang, Xin Ou

Summary: This work demonstrates gigahertz wideband acoustic delay lines (ADLs) with record-breaking propagation-Q using a thin-film X-cut lithium niobate on silicon carbide (LiNbO3-on-SiC) platform. With the help of SiC's high bulkwave velocity and excellent mechanical Q, the SH-SAW excited by unidirectional transducers propagates in LiNbO3-on-SiC's top surface with low acoustic loss. The fabricated ADLs show scalable center frequencies, wide fractional bandwidth, and a record-high propagation-Q, indicating the great potential of the LiNbO3-on-SiC acoustic platform for signal processing applications.

Synthesis, structure, and biological properties of Cu(II) complexes based on diimine ligands

Shi-Li Tang, De-Jun Li, Feng-Jie Ma, Lu-Lin Zhang, Bo Lian, Yuan-Zheng Cheng, Li-Ping Zhang

Summary: Three copper(II) complexes were synthesized and characterized, and their interactions with HS-DNA/BSA were investigated. The complexes were found to interact with HS-DNA via an intercalative mode and quench the intrinsic fluorescence of BSA through a static mechanism. The fluorescence data indicated that the complexes exhibited good binding affinity to BSA, with only one available binding site. The complexes displayed cytotoxicity against tumor cells and induced apoptosis in MCF-7 and HeLa cells.

Ultra-High Q of 11000 in Surface Acoustic Wave Resonators by Dispersive Modulation

Liping Zhang, Shibin Zhang, Hulin Yao, Jinbo Wu, Pengcheng Zheng, Dan Ling, Kai Huang, Xin Ou

Summary: In this study, a method to reduce acoustic energy loss and demonstrate GHz ultra-high Q acoustic wave resonators based on the LTOSiC substrate has been proposed. By modulating the ratio of the LiTaO3 film thickness to interdigital transducer pitch, the adjoined polarization components of the guided SH-SAW can be diminished, reducing the acoustic energy loss effectively. The modulated dispersive SH-SAW resonator shows excellent Bode-Q and FoM values, indicating the feasibility of developing low-loss acoustic devices for wireless communications on the LTOSiC substrate.

Summary: With the rapid growth of IoT, smart home has developed rapidly in recent years to assist those who need family medical support. A smart home and cross-cloud-and-edge computing-based nursing system is proposed in this article to integrate healthcare with AAL technologies and provide ADLs to those who need care. To meet the requirements of low latency, high stability, and real-time analysis and response, a novel distributed joint edge-cloud structure is introduced. Additionally, the blockchain and differential privacy are used to ensure security and privacy in the system.

Anti-apoptotic protein BCL-XL as a therapeutic vulnerability in gastric cancer

Yumin Wei, Liping Zhang, Chao Wang, Zefeng Li, Mingjie Luo, Guomin Xie, Xingjiu Yang, Mengyuan Li, Shuyue Ren, Dongbing Zhao, Ran Gao, Jia-Nan Gong

Summary: This study found that BCL-XL is a potential therapeutic target in gastric cancer. Selective BCL-XL inhibitors and VHL-based PROTAC BCL-XL can effectively kill gastric cancer cells that rely on BCL-XL for survival. However, copy number variations of BCL2L1 cannot reliably predict BCL-XL expression, but the BCL-XL protein level can serve as a useful biomarker for predicting the sensitivity of gastric cancer cells to BCL-XL-targeting compounds.

Liping Zhang, Shibin Zhang, Jinbo Wu, Pengcheng Zheng, Hongyan Zhou, Hulin Yao, Zhongxu Li, Kai Huang, Huarui Sun, Xin Ou

Summary: This article introduces the high-performance shear horizontal surface acoustic wave (SH-SAW) and longitudinal leaky SAW (LL-SAW) devices using Lithium Tantalate (LiTaO3) thin films on silicon carbide (SiC) substrate. The demonstrated LTOSiC hetero-substrate achieved exciting results on device frequency, quality factor (Q), temperature coefficient of frequency (TCF), and thermal transport properties. The resonators show scalable resonances and the filters exhibit desirable center frequencies, insertion loss, and out-of-band rejection. Overall, LTOSiC serves as an advanced material platform for acoustic devices in the 5G-frequency range 1 (5G-FR1) bands.

Jinbo Wu, Shibin Zhang, Pengcheng Zheng, Liping Zhang, Hulin Yao, Xiaoli Fang, Xuedi Tian, Xiaomeng Zhao, Tao Wu, Xin Ou

Summary: This work presents a MEMS filter utilising a first-order antisymmetric Lamb wave (A1) mode with a fractional bandwidth (FBW) exceeding 24%. The A1 mode resonators, based on locally thinned 128 degrees Y-cut lithium niobate (LiNbO3) films, demonstrate excellent effective electromechanical coupling coefficients (k(eff)(2)) of 43.6% and 39.8% for series and shunt resonators, respectively, enabling the realization of ultrawideband RF acoustic filters. The fabricated A1 mode filter, with a center frequency of 1.79 GHz, achieves a minimum insertion loss of 0.61 dB and a maximum 3-dB FBW of 24.6%. After further optimizations, these A1 mode filters have great potential as broadband acoustic-only filters for 5G New Radio bands.

Summary: During homeostasis and after injury, adult muscle stem cells (MuSCs) can activate and mediate muscle regeneration. Lin28a(+) MuSCs, which resemble embryonic muscle progenitors, have enhanced myogenic potency and self-renewal abilities compared to adult Pax7(+) MuSCs. These Lin28a(+) MuSCs can replenish the Pax7(+) MuSC pool and drive efficient muscle regeneration in adult mice.
