Summary: This study aimed to evaluate different combinations of polyanion-metal ion based solution system for phospholipids removal and elimination of matrix effects in human plasma. The optimized ZrOCl2-Ludox/DSS systems provided efficient phospholipids removal and adequate analyte recovery, and they also correctly eliminated ion suppression or enhancement of the non-polar and polar drugs.

Summary: Mass spectrometry coupled with liquid chromatography is a valuable tool for drug development and personalised drug therapy. The matrix effect is caused by enhancing or suppressing the analyte signal intensity by the interfering compounds of biological fluids. The matrix effect may influence the reliability of the quantitative results, thus its evaluation is critical in bioanalytical method validation.

Summary: In this study, silver nanoparticles (RME-AgNPs) were synthesized using Retama monosperma extract (RME), and their antibacterial activity was evaluated. The chemical composition of RME was identified using LC-ESI/MS/MS, and 21 phenolic metabolites were identified. The RME-AgNPs exhibited good antibacterial activity against both Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria, causing severe damage to the bacterial cell wall. The study also identified potential molecular targets and signaling pathways involved in the antibacterial activity of RME-AgNPs.

Summary: This study found that the extraction ratio has a significant impact on the accuracy of BMAA analyzed in different biological samples, recommending the best extraction ratios for different matrices. The comparison enhances the performance of solid-phase extraction (SPE) purification protocol and the accuracy of LC-MS/MS analysis of BMAA.

Summary: Imidazolium ionic liquids (ILs) are increasingly being used, and there is evidence of their presence in the environment. Due to their potential for bio-concentration, it is necessary to monitor the presence of these compounds in organisms from potentially contaminated waters. This study developed a novel analytical procedure for the determination of imidazolium ILs in mussel tissues using a combination of extraction techniques and LC-MS/MS analysis.

Summary: The study used GC-MS/MS and LC-MS/MS to investigate the matrix effects (MEs) of four different Indian pomegranate cultivar extracts on multi-class pesticides. The results showed that each cultivar had unique MEs for each pesticide, and most pesticides exhibited significant variations in recovery rates.

Summary: In this study, a simple and sensitive liquid chromatography with tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) method was developed to quantify the intracellular fluconazole (FLC) content in the opportunistic human fungal pathogen Candida albicans. The method was found to be accurate, efficient, and reproducible, and was successfully validated in 36 clinical isolated strains.

Summary: The matrix effect refers to the change in the analytical signal caused by the matrix in which the sample is contained, as well as the impurities that are co-eluted with the target analyte. In crop sample analysis using LC-MS/MS, the matrix effect can affect the quantification results. Chinese chives are likely to exhibit a strong matrix effect when co-extracted with bifenthrin and butachlor due to the presence of phytochemicals and chlorophyll. A novel analytical method was developed to reduce the matrix effects of bifenthrin and butachlor to a negligible level in Chinese chives.

Summary: A solid-phase extraction (SPE) technique was developed and optimised for isolation and concentration of extractable and bound phenolic acids from germinated spelt seeds, for analysis by liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry. The study found that this method has significant advantages over traditional liquid-liquid extraction in terms of higher extraction efficiencies and can be used for quantitative analysis of extractable and bound phenolic acids.

Summary: The present work aims to develop a high-yield extraction procedure combined with a robust, sensitive, and fast LC-MS/MS method for quantifying flavonoids and salicylic acid in Willow bark. The research investigates the effect of freeze and oven-drying procedures and five extraction solvents on the yield of individual flavonoids and salicylic acid. The freeze-drying procedure is the best for preserving monomeric and polymeric flavan-3-ols, while the best extraction solvent is methanol acidified with 1% hydrochloric acid.

Summary: Silmitasertib is a drug currently being investigated in clinical trials for the treatment of various cancers. It inhibits CK2 protein kinase, which has proliferation-promoting and anti-apoptotic effects on cancer cells. Researchers have developed an LC-MS/MS method for quantifying silmitasertib in human plasma.
