Summary: This study evaluated the quality of systematic reviews and meta-analyses on acupuncture as a treatment for diabetic gastroparesis (DGP). The methodology and results of the included studies were found to be of low quality. Although acupuncture appears to improve symptoms and has fewer side effects compared to controls, the findings need to be validated by additional high-quality studies.

Summary: The study on diabetic gastroparesis rats treated with acupuncture at Zhongwan and Zusanli points showed that different acupoints stimulation had different therapeutic effects, while needling local and distal acupoints together may have antagonistic or synergistic effects on gastric motility, ghrelin, gastrin, and growth factor 1.

Summary: Traditional Chinese acupoint therapies have shown significant advantages over Western medicine or conventional care in the treatment of diabetic gastroparesis, including higher total effective rates, improved gastric-emptying rates, and reduced glycosylated hemoglobin levels. However, more high-quality randomized controlled trials are needed to confirm these results due to the low quality and high risk of the included studies.

Summary: This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to evaluate the efficacy of acupuncture in treating postsurgical gastroparesis syndrome (PGS) after thoracic or abdominal surgery. Fifteen studies with 759 patients were included. Subgroup analyses revealed that acupuncture combined drug had significant advantages in terms of the total effective rate and recovery rate of PGS after abdominal surgery, but not after thoracic surgery.

Summary: Acupuncture has been shown to significantly relieve diabetic neuropathy, with commonly used acupoints including ST36, BL13, BL20, SP6, and SP9. The effect of acupuncture is mediated through various molecules in the peripheral nerves and spinal cord, and side effects reported are mild.

Summary: This study compared the efficacy and safety of GPOEM versus laparoscopic pyloromyotomy for refractory gastroparesis. The results showed that GPOEM had better clinical outcomes, shorter procedure time, reduced retention rates, shorter hospital stay, and fewer adverse events compared to surgery.

Summary: In this study, the protective effects of 7-hydroxyflavanone (7H), a flavonoid with antioxidative properties, against doxorubicin-induced cardiotoxicity (DIC) were investigated in an in vitro model. The results showed that 7H co-treatment alleviated oxidative stress, improved mitochondrial function, and attenuated apoptosis and necrosis. These findings suggest that 7H could be a potential cardioprotective agent against DIC.

Summary: Although the meta-publication showed no significant heterogeneity, sensitivity analyses revealed significant heterogeneity. The prevalence of gastroparesis was higher in women than in men, and the prevalence of type 2 diabetes was higher than type 1 diabetes. The prevalence of diabetic gastroparesis was slightly lower in patients over 60 years old compared to patients under 60 years old. Overall, the combined estimated prevalence of gastroparesis in diabetic patients was 9.3%. However, the results were highly sensitive, had low robustness, and significant bias factors were identified through subgroup analysis.

Summary: This article reports a novel case of MODY5 diabetes mellitus as a feature of 17q12 deletion syndrome caused by a new 17q12 deletion mutation. It highlights the importance of gene detection technology in assisting endocrinologists in making accurate diagnoses and providing appropriate therapies for patients with MODY5 or 17q12 deletion syndrome. Additionally, genetic screening counseling for family members can guide and optimize fertility.

Summary: The study aimed to investigate the value of diffusion tensor imaging in assessing renal injury in a rat model of preclinical diabetic nephropathy. Results showed that DN rats exhibited hyperglycemia, polyuria, and renal damage, with increased apparent diffusion coefficients and decreased fractional anisotropy values in the cortex and medulla compared to the NC group. Diffusion tensor imaging may be useful for early, non-invasive, quantitative detection, and therapy monitoring of diabetic nephropathy.

Summary: This systematic review and meta-analysis evaluated the efficacy and safety of acupuncture in combination with conventional treatment for pain relief in patients with diabetic peripheral neuropathy. The results showed that acupuncture therapy combined with conventional treatment was more effective in improving pain compared to conventional treatment alone, especially when acupoints were located in the limbs.
