Summary: Acute alcohol consumption can lead to cardiac arrhythmias related to the 'Holiday Heart Syndrome' by causing autonomic imbalance, with increased sympathetic activity and decreased parasympathetic activity. This imbalance may trigger arrhythmias, as shown by changes in measures of the cardiac autonomic nervous system during alcohol administration.

Summary: Binge drinking, even less than once per month, is associated with worse clinical outcomes in patients with acute coronary syndromes (ACS). Heavy alcohol consumption does not significantly increase the risk of major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE), but regular binge drinking increases the risk in a dose-dependent manner.

Summary: The study found that drinking red wine, consuming alcohol with food, and spreading alcohol intake over 3-4 days were associated with lower risk of mortality and vascular events among regular alcohol drinkers. Drinking spirits and beer/cider was associated with higher mortality risk.

Summary: In the past two decades, no improvement was found in mortality for patients with NSTEACS. A reduction in the risks for definite stent thrombosis, stroke and any coronary revascularisation was observed in Cohort-3, but there was an increase in the risk for major bleeding.

Summary: Binge drinking has increased among older men in the United States while it has remained stable among older women. Although tobacco and cannabis use is associated with an increased risk of binge drinking among both older men and women, demographic correlates tend to differ by sex.

Summary: Alcohol consumption has complex relationships with cardiovascular diseases, with conflicting associations depending on exposure measurement and outcomes. Methodological shortcomings and the need for large-scale longitudinal studies with detailed exposure and outcome measurements are highlighted. The less alcohol consumed, the better for individuals' cardiovascular health.

Summary: This study aims to investigate the prevalence of spin in systematic reviews. By analyzing 185 systematic reviews, it was found that 31.9% of the abstracts contained some form of spin. Seven forms of spin were identified among the nine most severe types. The study did not find statistically significant associations between spin and the evaluated study characteristics or methodological quality.

Summary: This study compared protocol adherence, neurological outcome, and adverse effects in post-cardiac arrest patients under controlled hypothermia and controlled normothermia protocols. Results showed that protocol adherence was higher in the TTM-36 group, with similar in-hospital mortality and neurological outcomes between the two groups, but bradycardic arrhythmias were more common in the TTM-33 group.

Summary: In patients with S aureus colonisation in the lower respiratory tract receiving mechanical ventilation in the ICU, treatment with 5000 mg suvratoxumab did not significantly reduce the incidence of S aureus pneumonia compared to placebo. Despite this, monoclonal antibodies remain a promising therapeutic option for reducing antibiotic consumption and warrant further exploration. Summary: The frequency and outcome of ARDS remained relatively stable between 2002 and 2012. High plateau pressure and driving pressure on the first day of mechanical ventilation were independently associated with a higher risk of death. These data provide hypothesis-generating information for future studies.
