We reported our endeavour in the quest for an attractive metallophilic interaction between two cyclometalated Au(III) cations without a bridging ligand. Among the newly prepared gold(III) complexes, namely [Au(C boolean AND N boolean AND N)(C CC6H4-4-R)](PF6) [HC boolean AND N boolean AND N 6-aryl-2,2'-bipyridine, R = H (1), Me (2), Ph (3), OMe (4), and NMe2 (5)], complex 5 is stable in solution and in the solid state. An X-ray crystallographic determination of the crystal structure of 5 revealed the shortest intermolecular Au (III)center dot center dot center dot Au(III) contact (3.495 angstrom) reported between two gold(III) complex cations. Further spectroscopic and luminescent characterizations and density functional theory calculations on this system converge to the existence of weakly attractive Au(III)center dot center dot center dot Au(III) interactions.

Theoretical study on the structure and properties of AuMIDLINE HORIZONTAL ELLIPSISAu interlocking gold(i) thiolate[2]catenanes

Yang Liu, Qing-qing Pan, Feng-wei Gao, Ying-chen Duan, Shui-xing Wu, Yu-he Kan, Zhong-min Su

Summary: By using DFT and TD-DFT methods, the relationship between structure and property of a series of homoleptic monocyclic and [2]catenanes gold(i) thiolates was analyzed. It was found that the [2]catenanes are more planar than the monocyclic molecules due to increased Au-S-Au bond angles in Au11 and Au12. The smaller Au-MIDLINE HORIZONTAL ELLIPSISAu contacts enhance the geometrical stability of the structures. The HOMO levels of the [2]catenanes are higher than those of the monocyclic molecules, and their absorption spectra exhibit a redshift consistent with the higher HOMO energy levels.

The combination of skeleton-engineering and periphery-engineering: a design strategy for organic doublet emitters

Hai-Ping Zhou, Shui-Xing Wu, Ying-Chen Duan, Feng-Wei Gao, Qing-Qing Pan, Yu-He Kan, Zhong-Min Su

Summary: This paper presents a series of radical luminescent materials based on TTM, designed through skeleton-engineering and periphery-engineering strategies. The study investigates the chemical stability and luminescence properties of these radicals using quantum chemistry methods. The findings reveal that radicals with smaller dihedral angle differences exhibit higher emission energy. Additionally, an efficient algorithm for calculating internal conversion rates is introduced and explained.

A theoretical study on the donor ability adjustment of tris(2,4,6-trichlorophenyl)methyl-triarylamine (TTM-TPA) radicals aiming to develop better organic luminescent materials

Hai-Ping Zhou, Shui-Xing Wu, Ying-Chen Duan, Feng-Wei Gao, Qing-Qing Pan, Yu-He Kan, Zhong-Min Su

Summary: This study investigates a series of monoradical molecules using quantum chemistry methods and finds that the luminescent properties of monoradical molecules can be tuned by introducing donor fragments. The electron donating abilities of donor fragments are negatively correlated with the stability and photoluminescence efficiency of the molecules. It is also discovered that the hybrid transition characteristic formed by charge transfer and localized excitation significantly contributes to the luminescence intensity of monoradical molecules.

Selective FRET nano probe based on carbon dots and naphthalimide-isatin for the ratiometric detection of peroxynitrite in drug-induced liver injury

Yueci Wu, Lu-Lu Sun, Hai-Hao Han, Xiao-Peng He, Weiguo Cao, Tony D. James

Summary: Drug-induced liver injury (DILI) is a common cause of acute liver failure in the USA and Europe, but most cases can be recovered or prevented by discontinuing the offending drug. Recent research has found that peroxynitrite (ONOO-) can be used as a potential indicator for early diagnosis of DILI, and there is an urgent need to establish a method to detect and track peroxynitrite in DILI cases. In this study, a FRET-based nano fluorescent probe CD-N-I was developed, which showed high selectivity and sensitivity in detecting peroxynitrite. The probe successfully detected exogenous peroxynitrite in live cells and endogenous peroxynitrite in APAP-induced liver injury of HepG2 cells.

Strain induced reactivity of cyclic iminoboranes: the (2+2) cycloaddition of a 1H-1,3,2-diazaborepine with ethene

Divanshu Gupta, Ralf Einholz, Holger F. Bettinger

Summary: This study presents the first direct spectroscopic evidence of a cyclic seven-membered iminoborane. Compared to linear amino-iminoboranes, this cyclic iminoborane exhibits weakened bond strength and lower Lewis acidity value. The study suggests that the reduced ring strain of cyclic iminoborane prevents nitrogen fixation but allows facile (2 + 2) cycloaddition reaction with C2H4.
