Summary: The study found that the number of tumor deposits is closely associated with the risk of recurrence in patients with stage III CRC, especially in those with more than 4 tumor deposits. Therefore, it is important to incorporate both the number of tumor deposits and the number of lymph node metastases to assess patients' prognostic risk.

Summary: The study found that positive lymph node ratio (PLNR) is a significant prognostic factor for survival in Stage III colorectal cancer patients, with a ratio above 0.31 indicating a poor prognosis. Prospective trials with larger patient groups are needed to further validate the role of PLNR as a prognostic indicator.

Summary: Lymph node ratio (LNR) is an important prognostic indicator in non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC), with higher LNR indicating worse prognosis. This study found that LNR and positive node category have predictive value for prognosis in stage III NSCLC patients.

Summary: This study found through meta-analysis that high lymph node ratio (LNR) is an adverse prognostic factor for cervical cancer (CC). The median LNR of approximately 0.0625 and 0.066 was identified as a prominent risk factor. Further clinical studies are needed to validate whether LNR can independently predict CC prognosis.

Summary: Tumor budding (TB), a powerful predictor of colorectal cancer (CRC), was studied to develop a prediction model for lymph node metastasis (LNM) and local recurrence in pT1 CRC patients. Independent predictors for LNM and recurrence were identified and used to construct predictive nomograms for treatment decision-making. The models showed potential clinical application value and postoperative chemotherapy was associated with better outcomes in high-risk patients.

Summary: This study aims to evaluate the prognostic significance of positive lymph nodes following surgery in patients with gastric adenocarcinoma. A total of 193 patients who underwent curative gastrectomy were included in this retrospective study. The results suggest that the positive lymph node ratio has some predictive value for prognosis in these patients.

Summary: The study compared various inflammation-based biomarkers for predicting recurrence-free survival in stage II-III colorectal cancer patients and found that the platelet to lymphocyte ratio, lymphocyte to monocyte ratio, and other markers were related to patient outcomes. However, only certain markers remained independent predictors in multivariate analysis. The fibrinogen and neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio score emerged as a superior prognostic indicator, particularly for predicting recurrence in surgical CRC patients.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the prognostic role of the neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) in stage II to III colorectal cancer (CRC) patients who underwent surgery. The results showed that NLR was significantly associated with overall survival (OS) and could be used as a simple and useful parameter for predicting OS in these patients.

Summary: This study suggests that the tumor microbiome may be a potential predictor of postoperative disease recurrence in patients with colorectal cancer. The microbial diversity and abundance differ between tumor and adjacent tissues, and a prediction model using tumor tissue microbiome data performs better than clinical factors, especially in female patients.

Summary: The aim of this study was to develop nanoparticles that can release drugs directly on the epithelium of the intestinal mucosa. These nanoparticles were prepared by using ionic gelation between chitosan and polyphosphate. The characteristics of the nanoparticles were analyzed, and their drug release ability and cytotoxicity were evaluated. The results showed that these nanoparticles have the potential to deliver drugs on the absorption membrane without causing toxicity.

Summary: This study retrospectively analyzed the treatment of COVID-19 inpatients and found that patients receiving high dose vitamin C intravenous injection often experienced dyspnea and desaturation, and were more likely to require oxygen therapy. In comparison, patients treated with remdesivir were more likely to be discharged after clinical improvement. The study concludes that further research is needed to establish local guidelines for the treatment of COVID-19.

Summary: This study aimed to assess the knowledge of Needle Stick Injury (NSI) among student nurses in Jordan and analyze its incidence and post-exposure management. A total of 130 student nurses from one hospital in Jordan participated in this descriptive cross-sectional study. Results showed that the participants had a good understanding of NSI, with an average knowledge score of 8 out of 10. Majority of the students (82%) reported experiencing at least one NSI exposure, but a significant number did not disclose it to their clinical professors or file incident reports. The study suggests the need for strengthening NSI education in nursing courses and improving student safety and post-exposure therapy during clinical practice.

Summary: Objective of this study was to evaluate the knowledge of Jordanian nurses about evidenced based practice. The study included 120 Jordanian nurses from one private hospital in Amman, Jordan. Data was collected using an evidenced-based practice knowledge tool. Out of 120 nurses, 100 responded to the survey, resulting in a response rate of 83%. The results showed that knowledge regarding evidenced based practice was low, with an average score of 1.2 out of 10. Therefore, an evaluation is needed to improve the knowledge and skills of nurses.

Summary: The transfer of a cardiac surgery patient from the OR to the ICU is a critical and challenging process, with the information exchange known as 'handoff' being a key focus for improving patient safety. A quality improvement project was conducted to develop a new handoff protocol involving the ICU team receiving face-to-face handoff, observing the final minutes of the case, and participating in debrief discussions, resulting in increased positive response rates for handoff safety questions. This initiative showed that having the ICU team run in parallel with the cardiac surgical team positively affects safety culture.
