Summary: The study found that radiation treatment alone is cost-effective for standard-risk DCIS patients, while observation is cost-effective for good-risk DCIS patients. Hormonal therapy may not be the optimal choice for most DCIS patients.

Summary: A cost-effectiveness analysis was conducted to evaluate the use of staple-line reinforcement in laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy. The findings showed that reinforced stapling reduced minor postoperative bleeding but had no significant effect on major bleeding or leaks. Therefore, it is not cost-effective to routinely use staple-line reinforcement in this surgical procedure.

Summary: This study evaluates the cost-effectiveness of pharmacotherapy for obese adolescents. The results suggest that top-dose phentermine and topiramate as adjunct to lifestyle counseling is a cost-effective option after 5 years. However, long-term clinical trials are needed to fully evaluate the outcomes of pharmacotherapy.

Summary: The rising global prevalence of myopia poses a significant public health concern. This systematic review examines the cost-effectiveness of interventions for treating myopia. Six studies meeting the eligibility criteria were included, assessing costs, quality-adjusted life years (QALYs), and incremental cost-effectiveness ratios (ICER). The findings suggest that photorefractive screening plus 0.01% atropine and corneal refractive surgery are cost-effective, while ranibizumab and conbercept show to be more cost-effective than photodynamic therapy for pathologic myopia. Prevention of myopia progression is more cost-effective than treating pathologic myopia.

Summary: This study aimed to determine the cost-effectiveness of weight loss interventions for obesity, and identify the requirements for semaglutide to be cost-effective. The results showed that endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty (ESG) and sleeve gastrectomy (SG) were cost-effective in class I, II, and III obesity compared to lifestyle intervention (LI). However, semaglutide was not cost-effective compared to LI in any obesity class. The cost of semaglutide would need to be significantly reduced for it to be cost-effective.

Summary: This study compared the cost-effectiveness of surgical and non-surgical treatments for spinal metastases, showing that the value of surgery varies depending on the patient population. Surgical intervention was found to be cost-effective for patients presenting with nonambulatory status due to acute neurologic compromise, but not for those who were ambulatory at presentation.

Summary: This study found that open groin hernia repair is associated with a lower risk of operative recurrence over time. The study also suggests that patient comorbidities and age may contribute to this outcome, and future research should focus on the impact of surgeon volume on outcomes.

Summary: This study compares the cost-effectiveness of different surgical techniques for radical prostatectomy in the UK. The results show that robotic-assisted radical prostatectomy (RARP) is a cost-effective option compared to open radical prostatectomy (ORP) and laparoscopic-assisted radical prostatectomy (LRP). RARP had lower costs and higher quality-adjusted life-years (QALYs) compared to LRP, and although it had higher costs than ORP, the incremental cost-effectiveness ratio (ICER) was below the willingness-to-pay threshold, making RARP more cost-effective than ORP in the UK.

Summary: This study evaluated the cost-effectiveness of different modifications of TAPP repair for groin hernia. The use of fibrin glue for mesh fixation and/or for closing the peritoneum was found to be the most cost-effective option and shortened operative times.

Summary: This systematic review evaluated the cost-effectiveness of SABR for OMD through the analysis of multiple studies. The majority of the included studies suggested that SABR is a cost-effective approach for treating OMD. However, further assessment is needed considering the impact of modern systemic therapies and long-term follow-up of randomized trials.

Summary: This study estimated the incremental cost per quit of adopting an intensive smoking cessation intervention among patients undergoing treatment at cancer care clinics, finding that the implementation of the intensive smoking cessation treatment intervention was moderately to highly cost-effective, depending on existing smoking cessation services in place.

Summary: This study defined institutional opioid prescribing patterns, established prescribing guidelines, and evaluated the adherence to and effectiveness of these guidelines in association with opioid prescribing after hiatal hernia repair (HHR). The results showed that median prescription amount decreased by 54% for open and 43% laparoscopic repair after guideline implementation, with no detectable change in the overall refill rate.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the cost-effectiveness of gastric bypass and sleeve gastrectomy compared to conventional therapy in obese patients from a Tunisian healthcare payor perspective. The results showed that bariatric surgery was cost-effective for patients with obesity and those with type 2 diabetes mellitus and obesity-related comorbidities. These findings may have an impact on future decision-making on funding and reimbursement of bariatric surgery in Tunisia.

Summary: This study compared eTEP repair with IPOM repair in terms of pain, cost effectiveness, and quality of life. The results showed that eTEP group had lower pain scores, lower seroma rates, and earlier return to activity. Additionally, the eTEP group was 2.4 times more cost effective than IPOM.
