Summary: This study investigated the association between sarcopenia and textbook outcome (TO) in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients. It found that sarcopenia is an independent predictor of TO and can influence long-term survival by affecting short-term postoperative outcomes. Nomogram models based on sarcopenia and TO were developed for survival prediction.

Summary: The study compares clinicopathologic and operative features, short- and long-term outcomes among hepatocellular carcinoma patients from three age groups undergoing liver resection. Elderly HCC patients have higher postoperative morbidity risk compared to younger patients, but age does not significantly affect overall survival rates.

Summary: This study examines the impact of public insurance status on the survival outcomes of HCC patients after liver resection in China. The results show that underinsured HCC patients have worse survival outcomes after liver resection. This may be due to the limited access to care for underinsured patients, but further exploration is needed for conclusive evidence.

Summary: Hepatitis B virus (HBV) is an important risk factor for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). The clinical conditions and survival of patients with HCC in Ethiopia are poor. Patients who received antiviral therapy had better survival outcomes than those who did not. Therefore, it is crucial to increase vaccination coverage and access to antiviral drugs against hepatitis to reduce the devastation of HCC.

Summary: This study compared the short- and long-term outcomes of robot-assisted, laparoscopic, and open liver resection in the treatment of Barcelona Clinic Liver Cancer stage 0-A hepatocellular carcinoma. The results showed that robotic and laparoscopic hepatectomies were safe and effective, with advantages in operative time and length of hospital stay, but no significant differences in 5-year disease-free survival and overall survival rates among the three groups.

Summary: Surgical outcomes in ruptured hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) are unfavorable compared to unruptured HCC, with a high risk of peritoneal seeding (PS). However, surgical resection combined with transcatheter arterial chemoembolization can help achieve acceptable oncological outcomes.

Summary: This study investigates the relationship between sarcopenia and postoperative 1-year mortality and health-related quality of life in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). The findings show that sarcopenia reduces postoperative survival and health-related quality of life in HCC patients.

Summary: This retrospective study analyzed the treatment outcomes of lenvatinib and atezolizumab + bevacizumab in 244 patients with unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). The study found that patients who underwent conversion therapy had significantly higher rates of downstaging and longer overall survival compared to those receiving chemotherapy alone. Patients with mALBI 1+2a and BCLC-B stage were more likely to achieve downstaging through conversion therapy.

Summary: This study aimed to explore the pathological characteristics of metabolic-related HCC and its correlation with metabolic factors. Biopsy and staining were performed on 51 patients with liver cancer, and it was found that 82.4% of the patients were diagnosed with HCC, with 20 patients meeting the diagnostic criteria for MAFLD-related HCC. The histological subtypes of HCC were correlated with fibrosis in the surrounding liver tissues and metabolic abnormalities.

Summary: The change of PALBI grade plays a critical role in evaluating liver function and predicting patient outcomes after hepatectomy, with worse PALBI grade negatively impacting recurrence and overall survival in HCC patients. A prognostic model incorporating the change of PALBI grade could be useful in predicting outcomes following hepatectomy.
