Summary: In this retrospective analysis, the volume of liver resection in patients with incidental gallbladder cancer was found to be associated with overall morbidity and length of stay, but not overall survival. Resection volume of 105 cm3 or more was associated with higher morbidity and length of stay. However, there was no significant difference in overall survival based on the volume of liver resection.

Summary: This study investigated whether simultaneous cholecystectomy is necessary for patients undergoing gastrectomy for gastric cancer to prevent gallstone formation. The study found that simultaneous cholecystectomy did not increase the incidence of postoperative complications or mortality. Older age, male sex, total gastrectomy, duodenal exclusion, and diabetes were identified as risk factors for gallstone development after gastrectomy.

Summary: This study investigates the benefit-risk ratio of preoperative transfusion (PT) on the occurrence of postoperative vaso-occlusive events (VOE) after cholecystectomy. The results show that PT increases the risk of alloimmunization and delayed hemolytic transfusion reaction (DHTR). Additionally, recent vaso-occlusive crises (VOC) are associated with a higher risk of postoperative VOE.

Summary: This study assessed the relevance of concomitant laparoscopic metabolic bariatric surgery (MBS) and cholecystectomy, and found that cholecystectomy should be avoided during sleeve gastrectomy (SG) and gastric bypass (GBP) procedures. Prophylactic cholecystectomy is not recommended for asymptomatic gallstones after MBS.

Summary: Evidence from seven systematic reviews suggests that using upright positions during the second stage of labour can reduce instrumental vaginal birth, episiotomy rates, and shorten the duration of labour, but also increases the risk of blood loss and perineal trauma. However, there is currently insufficient evidence to determine the benefits or risks of upright positions in women with epidural analgesia. Further robust studies are needed to provide stronger evidence for clinical practice and decision making.

Summary: A growing body of evidence indicates that napping is common among older adults. Daytime napping has a positive impact on subjective measures, psychomotor performance, and learning abilities in older adults, without detrimental effects on nighttime sleep. Future studies can consider repeated napping to investigate its chronic effects on older adults.

Summary: The study found that STER and ESE have similar efficacy and safety for the resection of esophageal and gastric submucosal tumors, but ESE is associated with significantly shorter procedure duration. Overall, there were no significant differences between the two methods in terms of complete resection rate, en bloc resection rate, recurrence rate, and total adverse events rate.

Summary: This study reviewed and analyzed the literature on the use of intraoperative cholangiography during cholecystectomy. The findings suggest that routine cholangiography does not have a clear advantage over selective cholangiography in decreasing bile duct injury. Additionally, there were no statistically significant differences in bile duct injury, retained stone rate, readmission rate, and length of hospital stay between cholecystectomy with and without cholangiography. However, the no cholangiography group had a higher risk of conversion to open surgery and a longer operation time.

Summary: Targeting cancer-associated fibroblasts has been considered a promising therapeutic strategy for pancreatic cancer, yet depleting these cells may have tumor-promoting effects due to their functional heterogeneity. It is therefore important to selectively target the tumor-promoting subtype of cancer-associated fibroblasts to achieve effective treatment outcomes.

Summary: The study found that early drain removal did not significantly decrease the incidence of grade 2-4 complications for patients undergoing pancreaticoduodenectomy with low or intermediate risk. There were no significant differences between the two groups in terms of comprehensive complication index, B/C grade pancreatic fistula incidence, total medical expenses, and postoperative in-hospital stay.

Summary: The study demonstrates that Agr2 is up-regulated during the ADM-to-pancreatic intraepithelial neoplasia transition in the context of inflammation and Kras(G12D) -driven early pancreatic carcinogenesis. Genetic ablation of Agr2 blocks the metaplastic-to-neoplastic process by interfering with the nuclear import of RNAPII. The developed hexapeptide disrupts the Agr2-RNAPII complex, leading to dysfunction of RNAPII and compromised initiation of PDAC.

Summary: Cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs) have been found to play a major role in the progression and drug resistance of pancreatic cancer. This study used single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) and bioinformatics analysis to compare CAFs/DAFs from both chronic pancreatitis and pancreatic cancer patients. The results showed that CAFs/DAFs in both conditions exhibit similar phenotypes, and cell cycle-related genes play an important role in both pancreatic cancer and chronic pancreatitis, suggesting common mechanisms underlying both diseases.
