Summary: This study identified a novel bacterial species isolated from pesticide-contaminated soil that enhances endosulfan degradation. The optimal conditions for biodegradation were determined, and it was found that endosulfan acted as the primary carbon source for bacterial growth. The bacterial isolate Pseudomonas sp. MSCAS BT01 showed promising potential for bioremediation of endosulfan-contaminated environments.

Summary: The study evaluated the biosynthesis of lutein and beta-carotene by Scenedesmus sp. SVMIICT1 under different light intensities, finding that high lutein content was observed at 50 and 500 mu E/m(2)/s conditions. The study also showed that light intensities altered photosystem II and photosystem I in the algae.

Summary: Testing and assessing the persistency, bioaccumulative and toxic properties of UVCBs pose major technical and analytical challenges. This study successfully combined whole substance biodegradation testing with constituent-specific analytics to determine primary biodegradation kinetics of the main UVCB constituents. The experiments revealed the degradation rate constants of the main constituents and the absence of nonpolar degradation products.

Summary: The present study aimed to develop a bacterial consortium (C3) consisting of three different isolates (A, B, and C) for efficient degradation of chlorpyrifos, cypermethrin, and glyphosate. The consortium isolates were identified as Lactobacillus plantarum, Lactobacillus rhamnosus, and Bacillus shackletonii through genome sequencing. Using central composite design (CCD), the optimal conditions for pesticide degradation, including pesticide concentration, pH, and inoculum size, were determined. Under optimized conditions, the consortium exhibited a significant (p < 0.05) degradation efficiency of 94.93%, 89.4%, and 87.01% for Chl, Cyp, and Gly after 15 days of incubation. The study proposed a common biodegradation pathway for each pesticide based on integrated genomic and gas chromatography mass spectrometry (GC-MS) analysis. Overall, this study highlights the role of microbes in pesticide degradation and suggests that the developed consortium has promising potential for the safe, economical, and eco-friendly detoxification or elimination of chlorpyrifos, cypermethrin, and glyphosate.

Summary: Paracoccus sp. DDT-21, isolated from sea water, is able to degrade over 80% of DDT at 50mg/L concentration in 72 hours, and shows tolerance to DDT stress. The optimal conditions for DDT degradation by this strain include pH 7.0, 35 degrees C, 6g/L yeast extract, and 6% glucose, with a degradation rate of approximately 90%.

Summary: The quantity of industrially polluted waters is increasing due to mono- and poly-aromatic compounds, which enter the soil, sewage, and clean water through industrial wastewater. The Penicillium commune AL5 strain isolated from Antarctic soil was found to have the potential to metabolize hazardous aromatic compounds. The strain demonstrated remarkable abilities in the degradation of hydroxylated monophenols and resorcinol, as well as the elimination of LMW PAHs.

Summary: In this study, the inhibitory effect of endosulfan coexistence on lindane degradation was investigated. The results showed that endosulfan concentration above 20 mg L-1 significantly inhibited the lindane degradation efficiency, and acidic conditions further decreased the degradation rate constants. In addition, the lindane degradation efficiency in the presence of endosulfan contamination was also significantly reduced. High-throughput sequencing results revealed changes in the bacterial community in the enrichment cultures under co-contamination conditions.
