Summary: Pancreatic fistulas are a serious complication following surgery or trauma near the pancreas. They can lead to various complications and increasing mortality and morbidity. Treatment options include surgical techniques, conservative measures, and medical treatments, but more research is needed.

Summary: This study found that in a pooled analysis of two randomized controlled trials in a biotissue model, robotic surgery resulted in better surgical performance scores and shorter operative time for biotissue pancreatic and biliary anastomoses, compared to 3D- and 2D-laparoscopy.

Summary: A study using the CONDOR registry found that dural arteriovenous fistula-related hemorrhage had relatively lower morbidity and mortality rates in patients compared to other arterialized cerebrovascular lesions. Age and anticoagulant use were identified as risk factors for poor outcomes, while the subtype of hemorrhage and venous shunting pattern did not significantly affect the outcomes.

Summary: The retrospective study analyzed 50 patients undergoing surgery for retroperitoneal sarcoma with pancreatectomy, finding that pancreatectomy is associated with significant postoperative morbidity and mortality, with common pancreas-related complications. The study suggests avoiding pancreaticoduodenectomy whenever possible, as other procedures may lead to better long-term survival.

Summary: Comparing laparoscopic pancreatic resection with open surgery for pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma, it was found that laparoscopic procedures have advantages in terms of surgical and oncological outcomes. However, both approaches showed similar postoperative outcomes and long-term survival among patients.

Summary: This study aimed to assess the surgical outcome and identify predictors of newborns with esophageal atresia admitted at Tikur Anbesa specialized hospital. The results showed that only 25% of newborns had successful surgical outcomes, and the poor surgical outcomes were associated with severe thrombocytopenia, timing of surgery, aspiration pneumonia, and related abnormalities.

Summary: This study compared three surgical approaches for the repair of postoperative pancreatic fistula. The results showed that open drainage procedure was superior to the other two methods in most of the monitored parameters. Disconnection of the pancreaticojejunostomy and salvage total pancreatectomy had similar results.

Summary: Pancreatic fistulas are a serious complication of pancreatic surgery, abdominal trauma, or severe pancreatitis, and can lead to various complications with significant impact on morbidity and mortality. This study analyzed the incidence and management of pancreatic fistulas in a tertiary referral center, with a focus on endoscopic approaches. The findings suggest that an endoscopic transmural approach using lumen-apposing metal stents (LAMS) can be effective in managing pancreatic fistulas.

Summary: In a high-volume LPD center, duct-to-mucosa pancreaticojejunostomy without pancreatic duct stent is safe and reliable. Patients with soft pancreatic remnants were more in number. The incidence of clinically relevant postoperative pancreatic fistula (CR-POPF) was similar between the no-stent and internal-stent groups, with only one patient in the internal-stent group dying within 90 days after the operation.

Summary: This study evaluated the impact of the LACC Trial on treatment patterns and surgery-related morbidity in early-stage cervical cancer. The results showed a significant decrease in the proportion of minimally invasive surgeries after the publication of the trial, but the 90-day complications did not differ between the two periods.

Summary: According to this study, the placement of a transanastomotic biliary stent does not reduce the occurrence or severity of pancreatic or biliary fistulae postoperatively. In fact, pancreatic fistulae are more likely to occur when biliary exteriorization is present.

Summary: The study suggests that the use of a multifactorial mitigation strategy (MS) following pancreaticoduodenectomy (PD) can significantly reduce the occurrence of postoperative pancreatic fistula (POPF) in high-risk patients. Both Body Mass Index and MS were identified as independent predictors of POPF. Further investigation on personalized approaches for vulnerable patients is recommended.

Summary: Mortality rates after pancreatic surgery have decreased, but postoperative complications, especially postoperative pancreatic fistula (POPF), remain high. Existing experimental models are unable to accurately reproduce the clinical consequences of POPF, limiting the development of prevention and treatment methods.

Summary: A retrospective analysis of predictors of postoperative pancreatic fistula (POPF) healing time after distal pancreatectomy (DP) revealed multiple independent predictors, including body mass index, operative time, postoperative acute pancreatitis, gender, preoperative pancreatic enzyme replacement therapy, etc. Early prediction of a longer healing time could have significant therapeutic implications.

Summary: This study compared the surgical outcomes of laparoscopic reconstruction (L-recon) and robotic reconstruction (R-recon) in patients with soft pancreas and small pancreatic duct. The results showed comparable postoperative pancreatic fistula rates and overall perioperative outcomes between the two reconstruction approaches.
