Summary: This study evaluated the impact of controlled-release N fertilizers (CRNFs) on machine-transplanted rice cultivation. The results showed that mechanical deep placement fertilization (DPF), especially with the use of sulfur-coated urea (SCU), significantly improved nitrogen use efficiency (NUE), rice yield, and economic benefits. Bulk blending fertilizer (BBF) consistently exhibited superior NUE and economic benefits.

Summary: Maintaining rice yield and reducing nitrogen input can be achieved by using nitrogen-saving varieties (NSVs). However, the limited options and lack of information on their responses make management decisions difficult. This study found that NSVs combined with nitrogen reduction can maintain rice yield, while general varieties show a significant decrease in yield. Moderate nitrogen reduction promotes nitrogen accumulation and use efficiency in NSVs. Therefore, adopting NSVs and reducing nitrogen input are crucial for maintaining grain yield in rice.

Summary: This study analyzed the genome-wide transcriptomic changes in miRNAs in the indica rice restorer cultivar Nanhui 511 under high and low nitrogen conditions. The results showed that high nitrogen conditions promoted the growth of lateral roots at the seedling stage. Additionally, some differentially expressed miRNAs were identified and validated under high nitrogen conditions, providing new data for high-NUE hybrid rice cultivation.

Summary: Improving nitrogen-use efficiency (NUE) is crucial for crops, especially in hybrid breeding. A study on two indica restorer lines under high and low nitrogen conditions revealed that one line (NH511) exhibited higher NUE and nitrogen uptake by increasing lateral roots and tiller numbers, compared to the other line (MH23). NH511 also showed better survival under different nitrogen-supply conditions. Transcriptomic analysis indicated that NH511 had significantly more differentially expressed genes related to nitrogen utilization compared to MH23. These findings suggest that NH511 could be used for breeding high-NUE rice varieties by regulating nitrogen-utilization genes.

Summary: The study demonstrated that a combination of 300 kg ha(-1) nitrogen application rate and 334,000 hills ha(-1) planting density could achieve relatively higher rice yield and better grain quality in saline areas. Increasing nitrogen application rate improved grain processing quality and nutritional quality but reduced appearance quality and cooking/eating quality. Higher transplant density was beneficial for grain nutritional quality but significantly decreased processing quality, appearance quality, and cooking/eating quality.

Summary: The study found that under the same nitrogen application rate, the RTN3 treatment significantly increased rice yield and nitrogen use efficiency compared to other fertilization modes. Additionally, the RNR treatment led to decreases in various growth parameters and nitrogen use efficiency. Both RTN3 and RNR1 fertilization modes achieved the dual goals of increasing grain yield and resource use efficiency, suggesting they may be beneficial for further application and investigation.

This study aimed to determine if the slowdown is due to the average yield approaching the yield potential ceiling. By using a simulation model and weather data, the study found that there is still room for increasing rice yields in Uruguay.

Summary: This study investigated the interaction between irrigation regimes and nitrogen application rates in rice, and the results showed that under continuous flooding, the highest grain yield was achieved with a medium nitrogen application rate, while under alternate wetting and moderate drying, the grain yield was comparable between medium and high nitrogen application rates. Alternate wetting and moderate drying significantly increased the grain yield, nitrogen use efficiency, and water use efficiency compared to continuous flooding.
