Summary: The most commonly employed analytical approaches for determining cortisol concentrations in hair include simple methanolic extraction, reversed-phase separation, and MRM detection in negative ion mode. The reported assays have acceptable sensitivity for clinical purposes. The increasing use of mass spectrometry in clinical laboratories may contribute to the establishment of LC-MS/MS as the method of choice for the determination of cortisol concentrations in hair.

Summary: Accurate and reproducible quantification of endogenous lipids is crucial for large-scale lipidomic analyses. Many lipids in liquid chromatography-electrospray ionization-mass spectrometry form various adducts with buffer components, and the mechanisms and conditions affecting adduct formation are poorly understood. Variations in adduct ratios can lead to significant inaccuracies during quantification, and the use of multiple adduct ions improves accuracy compared to using a single adduct ion.

Summary: To assess the combined effects of environmental pollutants (EPOLs), a comprehensive analytical method was developed to simultaneously analyze multiple EPOLs. The method overcame technical challenges associated with enzyme hydrolysis, simultaneous extraction, and analysis. The method was validated and showed potential for long-term, large-scale, and data-rich human biomonitoring of EPOLs.

Summary: This study compared the differences between different methods for measuring serum folate and found significant variations among the assays. Although there was good correlation between the assays, there was a lack of agreement. Therefore, it is important to routinely assess the accuracy and consistency of serum folate assays and promote standardization efforts.

Summary: The consumption of plant-based beverages as an alternative to cow's milk has gained attention worldwide. This study focused on monitoring the intake of BPA, BPB, and BPS in the Italian population through the consumption of these beverages. Analysis of popular brands in Italy found BPA and BPB in the samples. Risk assessment showed that if the new temporary TDI value is confirmed, more attention would be needed to protect consumer health.
