The Outcome of Allogeneic Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation From Different Donors in Recipients With Mucopolysaccharidosis

Summary: This study examined the efficacy of hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) for mucopolysaccharidosis (MPS) IV and VI. The results showed that HSCT can restore lysosomal enzyme levels, improve organ function, and increase overall survival rate. Umbilical cord blood (UCB) is a suitable donor source, and using a specific conditioning regimen can achieve better treatment outcomes.

Summary: Transplanting liver grafts from HCV-seropositive donors into HCV-seronegative recipients resulted in excellent short-term outcomes, with all patients achieving cure through effective and well tolerated antiviral therapy. Further long-term follow-up in clinical trials is needed for confirmation.

Survival Outcomes of Lung Transplant Recipients From Donors With Abnormal Kidney Function

Summary: This study assessed the survival of lung transplant recipients from donors with abnormal kidney function and compared the lung recovery rates between donors with and without abnormal kidney function. The results showed that there was no significant difference in lung recipient survival. However, the lung recovery rate from donors with abnormal kidney function was lower compared to donors with normal kidney function.

Effects of ABCB1 DNA methylation in donors on tacrolimus blood concentrations in recipients following liver transplantation

Summary: The DNA methylation of ABCB1 gene affects individual differences in tacrolimus blood concentrations following liver transplantation. Methylation levels of specific CpG sites in ABCB1 were found to be related to tacrolimus concentrations. Therefore, ABCB1 DNA methylation in donor livers may play a significant role in determining tacrolimus blood concentrations after liver transplantation.

Summary: Deletion of the Y chromosome (del[Y]) can cause deterioration of the graft-versus-leukemia (GVL) effect in allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HCT) involving a female donor and male recipient. A study in Japan found that del(Y) was significantly associated with inferior overall survival and an increased risk of relapse in these patients.

Summary: This study conducted a seroprevalence and molecular survey of HEV in 400 plasma samples from blood donors in Uruguay, revealing an HEV seroprevalence rate of 10%, almost 10 times higher than 20 years ago. These results suggest the need for HEV screening in blood banks to minimize the risk of transfusion-transmitted hepatitis E.

Hepatitis E virus in blood donors from Argentina: A possible source of viral infection

Summary: This study identified for the first time the molecular presence of hepatitis E virus (HEV) in blood donors from Argentina, showing a molecular prevalence comparable to that observed in blood donors from other non-endemic countries. Additionally, some immunocompetent HEV-positive donors without serological evidence of infection were identified. The presence of viraemic donors raises concerns about the possibility of transfusion transmission.
