Summary: This study characterized the genome of Avian nephritis virus genotype 3 (ANV-3), identifying features such as overlapping open reading frames (ORFs) and conserved astrovirus motifs. Phylogenetic analysis classified ANV-3 within genogroup 2 of the Avastroviridae family based on the whole genome and ORF2 capsid polyprotein.

Summary: The study aimed to explore the effects of an immunomodulator as a therapeutic auxiliary in puppies with sepsis and SIRS induced by CPE. It was found that administering a human immunomodulator to puppies with CPE under six months of age reduced the severity of clinical signs, increased survival, and modulated inflammatory cell parameters. More studies are needed to fully utilize these clinical findings, potentially mediated by the interaction of human Ub increment GG with canine CXCR4.

Summary: Neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) is a biomarker that reflects the balance between innate and adaptive immunity. Cortisol and catecholamines are major drivers of NLR. This study found that treatment with an immunomodulator positively affected NLR, lymphocyte and neutrophil counts.

Summary: The study found that the majority of participating laboratories demonstrated good testing performance for AstV, but performed poorly for SaV and PV. The main type of errors observed were false negatives, and the main challenges identified were lack of well-trained personnel and adequate funding.

Summary: A novel AstV associated with neurological symptoms has been detected in the intestines and brains of wild raccoon dogs in South Korea. These AstVs showed a high similarity to canine AstVs, suggesting possible interspecies transmission between raccoon dogs and dogs. Further research and surveillance are needed to understand the pathogenicity and transmission routes of these AstVs in raccoon dogs.

Summary: This study successfully isolated and molecularly characterized two strains of Chicken astrovirus (CAstV), and observed their effect on hatchability. The genetic analysis showed that these two strains had typical characteristics of avian astroviruses, with high similarity among Chinese strains and a common origin with strains from the UK.

Summary: This study investigates the impact of astroviruses on the poultry industry, particularly their genetic diversity and prevalence. It reports on a small-scale commercial broiler farm in China where cases of growth retardation and mortality were observed. The study identifies three chicken astroviruses with unique characteristics compared to known strains, highlighting the role of amino acid mutations in the emergence of variant strains. Experimental findings reveal liver and kidney enlargement, proventricular hemorrhage, and pancreatitis in affected chickens, shedding light on astrovirus pathogenicity. The study provides valuable references for future research.

Summary: This study detected and characterized Astroviruses (AstV) and adenoviruses (AdV) in calves, piglets, and puppies from Western Maharashtra, India. The results showed diversity in the circulation of AstVs in tested animals and AdVs in pigs, highlighting the need for extensive epidemiological investigations to develop diagnostic tools and control measures.

Summary: This study reveals the structure and features of human norovirus GII.4 virus-like particles using X-ray crystallography and cryo-EM. It uncovers the adaptability and stability of the capsid protein VP1, as well as its potential antigen presentation mechanism, providing valuable insights for vaccine development.

Summary: A VA1-like AstV was identified from an outbreak of foodborne acute gastroenteritis in Italy in 2018, with genome sequencing showing a relation to the UK1 strain. Similar viruses were also found in pediatric patients with acute gastroenteritis in 2018, although at a low prevalence. Gathering epidemiological data on atypical AstVs is important for assessing the risks posed by such infections in medically fragile patients.

Summary: The aim of this study was to assess the efficacy of alternative substances, including b-glucans, MOS, essential oil, and probiotics, as replacements for anticoccidial agents. The results showed that the use of additives had superior effects on performance parameters compared to the application of anticoccidial agents throughout the entire experiment. The inclusion of additives significantly improved performance parameters in broilers challenged with coccidia and Clostridium perfringens at 14 days of age, as well as with C. perfringens at 21 days of age.
