Summary: This retrospective study focused on primary intranasal mast cell tumors (MCTs) in dogs. The study found that intranasal MCTs tend to metastasize and have a generally poor prognosis, resembling the behavior of MCTs in other mucosal locations. Dogs with metastatic disease and survival times of <1 year often exhibit specific clinical features.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the ability of immunohistochemistry and quantitative PCR methods to detect Leishmania infection in skin biopsies with lymphoplasmacytic/histiocytic and/or granulomatous dermatitis diagnoses. The study found that immunohistochemistry was the most discriminatory method for estimating the role of the parasite in skin lesions in cases of moderate/severe inflammation.

Summary: AGASACA is a locally aggressive tumor with high metastatic rate to regional lymph nodes in dogs. This study evaluated the prognostic significance of Ki67 in surgically excised AGASACA and also assessed other factors related to prognosis. Results showed that lymph nodes metastasis at diagnosis reduced disease free interval, while tumor size, lymphatic and vascular invasion, and a solid histologic pattern were associated with shorter survival time in dogs with metastasis to regional lymph nodes. Ki67 expression was not significantly associated with prognosis.

Summary: The International Ki67 Working Group has developed a training program for improving the reproducibility of immunohistochemistry scoring and recommends specific cut points for prognosis in ER+, HER2-, stage I/II breast cancer. The overlap between these cut points and the Recurrence Score (RS) assay remains moderate, indicating the unclear clinical utility of using these cut points for further testing.

Summary: Nerve sheath tumors (NSTs) are characterized by abnormal cell growth in various types of cells. Loss of H3K27me3 expression in a subset of MNSTs has been identified as a potential diagnostic marker. In a study of 68 canine tumors previously diagnosed as NST, 25% showed loss of H3K27me3 expression, 49% had mosaic loss of expression, and 26% retained expression. However, there were no significant correlations between H3K27me3 expression and histopathological features or other markers. More research is needed to evaluate the diagnostic value of H3K27me3 loss in canine NST.

Summary: This study explored the immunohistochemical expression of HDAC-1, -2, -4, and -6 in SGTs and their potential as prognostic biomarkers. The results indicated that HDAC-2 expression was associated with longer overall survival in patients with malignant SGTs, while HDAC-2 positivity and absence of HDAC-6 expression were related to prolonged survival in patients with high-grade malignant SGTs. Moreover, high HDAC-2 expression was significantly associated with longer overall survival in high-grade malignant SGT patients.

Summary: Adiponectin plays a crucial role in skin biology, being greatly affected by nutritional status and obesity. The study showed a negative correlation between adiponectin and ADIPOR2 skin expression and serum levels in obese dogs. This suggests that the adiponectin system in the skin undergoes changes in obesity, impacting the local functionality of tissues, including the skin.

Summary: This case study reports an extraskeletal osteosarcoma in a Maltese dog, which did not result in recurrence or metastasis after resection. Analysis revealed high expression of proliferation- and metastasis-related biomarkers in the tumor cells, along with the absence of angiogenesis-related biomarkers, suggesting a hypoxic tumor microenvironment preventing metastasis.

Summary: The study investigates the role of Ki67, Her-2, and MutP53 proteins in predicting the progression and prognosis of CRC. A risk model, nomogram, and lymph node metastasis model were developed based on these proteins. The study found significant correlations between the expression of these proteins and various clinicopathological features of CRC. The risk model showed high predictive value for determining the pathological characteristics and prognosis of CRC. The nomogram prediction model demonstrated premium clinical value for predicting prognosis. The lymph node metastasis model incorporating these proteins showed robust predictive capacity.
