Summary: Equine asthma, similar to human asthma, has a significant negative impact on horse welfare and performance. By studying equine BALF cells, we can gain insights into the immune cell landscape of the respiratory tract and better understand the pathogenesis of equine asthma.

Summary: Among individuals with PAD, there is significant variation in walking improvement after SET, with shorter baseline 6-minute walk distance associated with greater improvement. However, age, sex, disease severity, and other clinical characteristics do not affect responsiveness to exercise therapy.

Summary: This study found differences in the pulmonary fungal and bacterial microbiota in sarcoidosis patients compared to controls, and lower levels of antimicrobial peptides in sarcoidosis patients, indicating an interaction between the microbiota and the innate immune system.

Summary: Using different sequencing techniques in the study and investigating the impact of oral commensals in a mouse model, functional characteristics of the lower airway microbiota were identified, indicating that metatranscriptome is the most effective way to capture transient active microbial metabolism.

Summary: In individuals with peripheral artery disease, walking exercise inducing ischemic leg symptoms improved walking velocity and Short Physical Performance Battery score. Compared to walking exercise without ischemic symptoms, walking exercise inducing ischemic symptoms had a positive effect on walking velocity and physical performance.

Summary: Aerobic exercise has positive effects on mitochondrial activity and muscle mass in older adults, but its impact on patients with peripheral artery disease remains unclear. Studies show that walking exercise may increase lower extremity ischemia in PAD patients, and more research is needed to clarify the underlying mechanisms.

Summary: This study reviews the physical therapy techniques used in horses over the past 20 years, with exercise, electrotherapy, and hydrotherapy being the most frequently reported methods. However, there is a lack of detailed information on the application and outcomes of these techniques in clinical cases. Further research is needed to better understand the types of interventions, parameterization, and outcomes of equine rehabilitation in clinical practice.

Summary: Sedation should be avoided during echocardiographic examination in horses as it alters cardiac dimensions and indices of function. However, some horses require sedation for a safe and effective examination. This study aimed to evaluate if the concurrent infusion of dobutamine counteracts the cardiovascular changes observed with sedation alone. The results showed that the infusion did not counteract the sedation-induced alterations.

Summary: The recent outbreak of the SARS CoV-2 virus has significantly impacted global respiratory health. The virus is spread through small aerosols and can lead to severe health hazards by traveling to the terminal airways of the respiratory system. Research shows that the deposition of virus particles varies based on activity levels, highlighting the importance of understanding the transport of SARS CoV-2 particles for lung health risk assessment.

Summary: This multicenter retrospective study in South Korea investigated tracheobronchial foreign body aspiration in adults using flexible bronchoscopy. The results showed that foreign body aspiration is not uncommon in adults, even without predisposing factors. Iatrogenic events accounted for a significant proportion of cases, and flexible bronchoscopy was found to be relatively safe and successful in removing the foreign body.

Summary: Neurodegenerative diseases result in severe disability in terms of motor and cognitive limitations, with cognitive impairment posing a significant health and socioeconomic challenge. Physical exercise is increasingly recognized as a valuable intervention for improving cognitive functions, promoting neuroplasticity and neuroprotection at a neurobiological level, and yielding positive clinical effects on patients with cognitive impairment.

Summary: This study assessed the feasibility and diagnostic reliability of a new smartphone-based ECG device in dogs, and found no significant differences compared to a traditional ECG device. The results suggest that the smartphone-based device is clinically reliable for assessing heart rate and rhythm in dogs.
