Summary: The study demonstrates that using 2% chlorhexidine plus alcohol for skin disinfection is superior to 5% povidone iodine plus alcohol in preventing peripheral venous catheter-related infectious complications. The use of innovative devices extends the complication-free dwell time of catheters.

Summary: The study found that chlorhexidine/alcohol (CHA) is the most effective method for preventing deep and superficial surgical site infections, while poviodine/water (PVIW) is the least effective. There was a significant increase in infection odds in the PVIW group compared to the CHA group. There were no significant differences between CHA and PVIA, or CHW and PVIW.

Summary: This article investigates the impact of postural variations on hand anthropometry and skin strain ratios, highlighting the importance of considering dynamic hand measurements for constructing gloves with optimum fit. Current gloves based on static posture fail to provide the best fit, indicating a need for improvements in glove design to enhance comfort and performance.

Summary: The review of BIA studies on anti-diabetic drugs revealed significant methodological differences and low compliance to good practice guidelines in some studies. Future research should focus on optimizing compliance to national or ISPOR BIA guidelines and improving model validation and sensitivity analysis. Continued improvement in BIA using real-world data is crucial for ensuring high-quality analyses and reliable results.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate whether using a colored antiseptic solution increases the quality of preoperative skin antisepsis. The results showed that the use of a colored disinfectant leads to a higher coverage of the perioperative skin disinfection compared to using an uncolored agent.

Summary: This study assessed the cost-effectiveness of abobotulinumtoxinA (aboBoNT-A) plus Best Supportive Care (BSC) compared to BSC alone for managing limb spasticity in adult patients in Greece. The results showed that aboBoNT-A plus BSC was a cost-effective treatment option for both upper and lower limb spasticity. Additionally, introducing aboBoNT-A in the Greek healthcare system resulted in cost savings in pharmaceutical spending over a 5-year period.

Summary: Hand antisepsis of medical personnel is crucial in patient care as it prevents the spread of pathogenic microorganisms during surgical procedures. This study examined the prevalence of microorganisms on the hands of 131 surgeons before surgery in a university hospital. The results showed a high frequency of microorganisms before handwashing, but after surgical antisepsis, the rate dropped significantly. Gram-positive species, particularly Staphylococcus spp. and Micrococcus luteus, were the most detected, followed by gram-negative species such as Stenotrophomonas maltophilia and Acinetobacter baumanii.

Summary: The study found that standard skin antisepsis before total hip arthroplasty (THA) was not effective in completely eliminating skin colonization of C. avidum, which may increase the risk of periprosthetic joint infections (PJI) during THA. Novel and more effective antisepsis strategies are needed to address this issue.
