Summary: The study found that some common environmental endocrine disrupting chemicals have androgen mimicking potential, affecting androgen-dependent prostate cancer cells, and may regulate the development and growth of prostate cancer by modulating proliferation in androgen-sensitive cells and epigenetic machinery.

Summary: This study conducted whole-genome sequencing and analysis of LNCaP, VCaP, and PC3 cell lines, revealing the presence of multiple subpopulations in LNCaP cells leading to nonintegral copy number states and a high mutational load; all three cell lines harbored mutations in genes involved in DNA repair and other critical cellular processes; PC3-AR cells had a truncating mutation in TP53, while VCaP cells contained a gain-of-function mutation promoting cancer invasion and metastasis.

Summary: This study evaluated the anti-androgenic properties of the fungicide vinclozolin and its metabolites in prostate-derived cells, and identified M2 as the compound with the strongest inhibitory effect on DHT-induced PSA secretion and gene expression.

Summary: Antrodia salmonea extracts inhibit the proliferation of prostate cancer cells and induce apoptosis through the reverse regulation of p53 and androgen receptor (AR), suggesting their potential therapeutic use for androgen-dependent prostate cancer.

Summary: This study investigated the relationship between TP53 mutation status and autophagy in prostate cancer and assessed the efficacy of autophagy inhibitors on TP53-deficient tumors. The results showed that TP53 loss-of-function was associated with increased levels of autophagy-related proteins in prostate cancers and genetically-engineered mouse-derived tumors. Moreover, TP53 re-expression led to resistance and growth advantage in response to autophagy inhibition. Additionally, the upregulation of PEX14 suggested its importance in TP53-deficient tumor maintenance.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the effects of encomir-93 mimic transfection on the expression of miR-93, PSA, and AR in prostate cancer LNcap cell line. LNCaP cells were cultured and then transfected with miR-93 mimics. The expression levels of PSA and AR were determined by Real-time PCR. The results showed that miR-93 mimic transfection significantly increased the expression of PSA and AR compared to the control group. Therefore, miR-93 and its target genes play an important role in the progression of prostate cancer through enhancement of PSA and AR expression. Further research on these genes could contribute to the treatment of prostate cancer.

Summary: This study investigated the effect of different concentrations of EGCG on the expression of AR and PSA in LNCaP prostate cancer cell line. The results showed that higher concentrations of EGCG (40 and 80 mu g/mL) increased the expression of AR and PSA compared to lower concentrations. Therefore, caution should be exercised in the use of EGCG due to its potential toxic effects on cancer cells at higher concentrations.
