Summary: The study found that depletion of estrogen increased urinary frequency, while estrogen receptor beta agonist diarylpropionitrile (DPN) could alleviate this symptom. Additionally, both 17 beta-estradiol and DPN were able to decrease the expression of P2X3 receptors in bladder urothelium cells.

Summary: The study found that patients with underactive bladder have significantly higher levels of urinary NO and decreased levels of ATP. The NO/ATP ratio can be considered as a noninvasive alternative test for diagnosing bladder underactivity, with a high sensitivity, specificity, and diagnostic accuracy.

Summary: Propiverine has shown to be an efficient and safe option for treating OAB in children, with an increase in bladder capacity and expected bladder capacity observed in patients on the medication. The drug offered comparable efficacy and tolerability when compared to other molecules used in historical cohorts.

Summary: Prior studies indicate that ATP released by the urothelium plays an important role in bladder mechanotransduction and undergoes hydrolysis during bladder filling. Experimental results show that the hydrolysis of ATP and ADP is significantly greater in distended bladders compared to non-distended bladders, while the hydrolysis of AMP remains unchanged. Furthermore, the activity of nucleotidases is also higher in the extraluminal solution from distended bladders. These findings suggest that the hydrolysis reaction during bladder filling is mechanosensitive.

Summary: This study investigated the overall and disease-specific risk of death in patients with non-muscle invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC). The results showed a slightly increased risk of death from non-bladder cancer causes in NMIBC patients, which may be explained by confounding factors. Repeated transurethral procedures during follow-up did not increase the risk of death from non-bladder cancer causes.

Summary: This study investigated the effect of intrathecal administration of CCPA on voiding function in rats with cystitis induced by cyclophosphamide. The results showed that CCPA alleviated bladder overactivity induced by cyclophosphamide, suggesting that the adenosine A1 receptor in the lumbosacral spinal cord may be a promising target for treating bladder overactivity.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the prognostic value of the preoperative systemic inflammation response index (SIRI) in predicting outcomes after open radical cystectomy (RC). The results showed that patients with preoperative SIRI >1.91 had significantly higher recurrence rates and lower overall survival rates. SIRI was found to be an independent predictive factor for recurrence-free survival and overall survival, with a higher contribution compared to other inflammatory markers.

Summary: This review article discusses the causes, incidence, evaluation, and treatment options for lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) after radiation therapy (RT) for prostate cancer (PCa). It emphasizes the potential risks of RT, challenges of treatment, and the need for thorough evaluation and treatment strategies for patients. Further research is necessary to provide evidence of the effectiveness and feasibility of management approaches for patients with LUTS after RT for PCa.

Summary: The characteristics and management of bladder and urethral injuries in Korea were analyzed using the NHIS database. The study found that the incidence of urethral injury is increasing annually, while the incidence of bladder injury remained unchanged. The incidence of bladder injury was higher in females, and majority of urethral injuries occurred in males.
