Summary: This article discusses the electrochemical oxidation process based on hydroxyl radicals generated on lead dioxide and the important role of titanium-based lead dioxide electrodes in this process. It also explores methods of modifying the structure and properties of the lead dioxide active surface layer by doping transition metals, rare earth metals, nonmetals, etc. Comparisons of common preparation methods of lead dioxide are made, along with discussions on its electrochemical oxidation performance and suitable operating conditions in various wastewaters, and a systematic analysis of the factors influencing contaminant removal kinetics.

Summary: The review focuses on combined sono-photolysis techniques for the degradation of persistent organic pollutants, showing that the synergistic effect of ultrasound and ultraviolet light can effectively enhance the degradation efficiency of toxic pollutants. The physical feature of ultrasound facilitates intense mixing of the pollutant, allowing UV light to penetrate deeply and accelerate oxidation reactions, leading to improved degradation of pollutants.

Summary: This study demonstrates an electrochemical advanced oxidation process (EAOP) that can simultaneously catalyze the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) to generate atomic hydrogen (H*) and hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) in situ. By using a palladium-coated carbon-PTFE gas diffusion electrode (Pd/C GDE) as a catalytic cathode, hydroxyl radicals ((OH)-O-center dot) can be formed by the reaction of electrogenerated H* with H2O2. The H*/GDE process is more effective in degrading organic contaminants compared to the conventional H*/H2O2 process.

Summary: In this study, a novel PbO2 electrode modified with rare earth elements (La, Ce, Gd and Er) doping was prepared by electrodeposition. The micro-morphology, crystal structure, and electrochemical properties of the modified electrode were characterized. The results showed that rare earth elements doping significantly improved the oxidation ability of the PbO2 electrode by reducing grain size, increasing oxygen evolution potential, enlarging electrochemical active surface area, and enhancing center dot OH formation ability.

Summary: The study presents an ultrasound-photocatalysis based hybrid method for effective degradation/mineralization of the bio-recalcitrant pharmaceutical pollutant ofloxacin. The combined US/UV/H2O2/ZnO method showed significant synergy with OFLX degradation rate of 94.2% and total organic carbon removal rate of 45.1% under optimal operating conditions. The power-law kinetic model well represented the degradation kinetics with orders of reaction being 2.2 and 1.9 for different hybrid methods.

Summary: This study focused on the degradation of antibiotic levofloxacin (LVN) using the electro-peroxone (E-peroxone) process in a lab-scale flow plant operated in recirculation mode. The research found that the E-peroxone method achieved 63% mineralization of LVN under specific conditions, with factors such as current density, volumetric electrolyte flow rate, and initial concentration of LVN influencing the mineralization efficiency. Oxalic, oxamic, and tartaric acids were identified as the main final products of LVN mineralization during the electrolysis process.

Summary: In this study, different BWO samples were synthesized at different temperatures and evaluated for their electrochemical oxidation of Rhodamine B dye in an aqueous medium. The results showed that BWO-600 exhibited the best activity, attributed to its high surface area and small crystallite size compared to the other samples.

Summary: In this study, the authors found that dissociated nitrogen (N-atom) had a greater impact on ammonia selectivity in the plasma/liquid interfacial reaction compared to excited nitrogen molecules. By connecting the reaction locus with a high N-atom generation device, they achieved high selectivity in aqueous ammonia production while minimizing the formation of aqueous nitrate ions. The researchers also observed the release of oxygen and hydrogen atoms from water, forming NO and hydrogen gas, which further improved the ammonia synthesis selectivity.

Summary: In this paper, a 1D convection-diffusion-reaction model concerning the transport and oxidation of oxalic acid and oxygen evolution in an electrochemical oxidation system with reactive electrochemical membranes (REM) was proposed. The model allows the determination of unknown parameters of the system by treatment of experimental data and predicts the behavior of the electrolysis setup. Experimental data showed good agreement with calculated results at different conditions, and the model provides understanding of the processes occurring in the system.

Summary: This study investigates the reduction in efficiency of anodic oxidation, focusing on the formation of gas bubbles and the recharge of the REM pore surface at high current densities. The research proposes a one-dimensional non-stationary model to describe the transport of diluted species during the anodic oxidation of paracetamol using REM. The experimental data processing revealed that the presence of gas bubbles increases hydraulic resistance, leading to longer residence times for paracetamol and decreased productivity.

Summary: In this study, natural chitosan biopolymer was immobilized onto montmorillonite surface for efficient removal of dyes in aqueous solution using ultrasound-assisted method. The sonochemical process was found to be the most effective in degrading the dyes, with a highest removal efficiency of 82.74% achieved under optimized conditions. The kinetic of sonochemical process was represented by a combination of pseudo-second order and intra-particle diffusion models, with Langmuir isotherm model showing the best conformity.
