Summary: This study investigates the structure-activity relationship of quinolinone-chalcone and quinolinone-pyrazoline hybrids to discover potential antioxidant and anti-inflammatory agents. Four bioactive quinolinone-chalcone compounds were synthesized and chemically modified into fifteen new pyrazoline analogues. Among them, compounds 9b and 9m showed the best combined activity, with 9b exhibiting the most potent LOX inhibitory activity. Docking results revealed that pyrazoline analogue 9b had a high AutoDock Vina score and all tested derivatives interacted allosterically with the enzyme.

Summary: This article presents an electrochemically enabled approach for the sustainable synthesis of pyrazoles via oxidative aromatization of pyrazolines. It utilizes inexpensive sodium chloride as a redox mediator and supporting electrolyte in a biphasic system (aqueous/organic), and can be conducted using carbon-based electrodes in a simple electrolysis set-up. The method allows for simple work-up strategies such as extraction and crystallization, enabling its application on a technically relevant scale.

Summary: This study presents the first electrochemical approach for the direct synthesis of pyrazolines and pyrazoles from easily accessible hydrazones and dipolarophiles. The method allows for large-scale production and even conversion of highly sensitive alkenes. The use of a biphasic system with sodium iodide as a supporting electrolyte and mediator is cost-effective. Mechanistic insight is provided by the isolation of key intermediates, and the synthesis of a commercial herbicide safener further highlights the significance of this reaction.

Summary: Microplastics and nanoplastics have negative impacts on the environment and human health, and their interactions with microorganisms have various effects. More research is needed on biodegradable alternatives. China, the United States, the United Kingdom, and Germany lead the scientific production in this field, but large-scale pilot studies in the environment are lacking. Increased research funding from governments and collaboration among universities, institutes, and industries are required to find alternative pathways for MP/NP degradation and standardize extraction and characterization methods.

Summary: Novel alpha, beta-unsaturated carbonyl depsipeptides and peptoids incorporating various chromophores were synthesized using multicomponent reactions. UV/Vis spectroscopy was used to study the photophysical properties of the compounds, and the differences in electron delocalization caused by different chromophores were captured in the spectra. A photostability study for one compound showed that its molecular structure remained unchanged after exposure to UV radiation. Fluorescence analysis revealed incipient emission and blue fluorescence for specific compounds under UV radiation. The photophysical properties and electronic structure were also studied theoretically.

Summary: This study provides scientific data on the presence and abundance of microplastics in water and fish from Tocagua Lake, a wetland in the Colombian Caribbean. The average concentration of microplastics in the lake water was 0.96 ± 0.40 MPs/L, and microplastics were found in the gastrointestinal tract of 83.7% of the fish. Black and blue-colored fiber microplastics were the dominant particles, and seven types of polymers were identified. The abundance, type, and color of microplastics did not differ significantly between seasons.
