Summary: Concerns about falling (CaF) are common in older adults and can be both adaptive and maladaptive with respect to falls risk. High CaF can lead to behaviors that increase the risk of falling and cause activity restriction (maladaptive CaF), but it can also encourage individuals to make modifications for safety (adaptive CaF). High CaF, regardless of its adaptivity, should be seen as a sign that something is not right and an opportunity for clinical engagement.

Summary: This study investigated the relationship between bladder dysfunction in women with MS and balance, falls, and fear of falling. The results indicate that bladder dysfunction is not directly associated with increased risk of falls, but rather with fear of falling.

Summary: This study provides insight into the development and consequences of worries about falling in older people. It highlights the importance of considering an individual's perception of control in relation to worries about falling. Depending on whether the individual perceives control over the subject of their worries, worries can lead to either protective adaptations to behavior or unhelpful changes in behavior.

Summary: This study assessed the influence of physical function on balance and future falls in older adults with fear of falling (FOF), and whether activity restriction modifies the contribution to falls. The results showed that physical function contributes to balance and falls in older adults with FOF, especially in those restricting activity. This suggests that there are additional factors contributing to balance issues and increased fall risk independent of function.

Summary: The study found that hemodialysis patients have higher levels of fear of falling (FOF) and that FOF is associated with poor postural balance and reduced physical component of quality of life. These patients are more likely to experience FOF compared to individuals without chronic kidney disease.

Summary: The study aimed to develop a new device (AIDAW) to measure ankle inversion proprioceptive discrimination during walking in older people and investigate its relationship with fear of falling. The results showed that AIDAW is a reliable and valid device, older adults have impaired ankle inversion proprioceptive discrimination sensitivity, which is strongly associated with fear of falling.

Summary: This study examined the relationship between fear of falling and self-care behaviors in older people with hypertension. A cross-sectional study was conducted on 301 older people with hypertension in Tehran, Iran. The results showed that gender, educational level, and history of falling were significantly associated with fear of falling, while marital status, educational level, and income source were significantly associated with self-care behaviors.

Summary: This study found that falls and fear of falling are independent risk factors for functional limitations in older adults. Concurrent falls and fear of falling increase the risk of functional limitations. The moderating role of living alone or not in these associations is still unclear.

Summary: Fear of falling is common in older adults and increases the risk of falls. However, interventions aimed at improving balance to reduce fall risk have limited success. This study found that the presence of fear of falling did not modify the relationship between balance performance and future fall risk in older adults. Therefore, balance training is appropriate for reducing falls in older adults with fear of falling, but may not be sufficient on its own.

Summary: This study aims to explore the characteristics of fear of falling (FoF) among older adults, identify clinical predictors for persistent or transient FoF, and compare the differences between persistent and transient FoF. The results indicate that risk factors such as female gender, osteoporosis, depression, living alone, impaired physical performance, BMI, and comorbidity are significantly associated with persistent or transient FoF among older fallers.

Summary: This systematic review investigates the impact of fear of falling (FoF) and related constructs on rehabilitation after hip fracture. The results show that FoF is common among hip fracture patients and is associated with poorer physical function. Currently, only two instruments (FES-I and FFQ-R) have been validated for measuring FoF in this population. However, larger, higher quality randomized controlled trials are needed to guide clinical practice.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the role of self-efficacy, fibromyalgia impact, and activity patterns on objective physical activity levels. The results indicated that self-efficacy was directly related to light, moderate, and vigorous physical activity, and inversely related to sedentary time. Keeping high levels of physical activity is challenging for patients with fibromyalgia, making self-efficacy a crucial variable in reducing sedentarism and physical inactivity.

Summary: Most educators underestimate the importance of corporal expression, despite its proven advantages for children of all ages. This research aims to analyze the differences in perceptions of future teachers towards corporal expression based on gender and educational specialty. The study found significant differences in perceptions across various dimensions when educational specialty was considered, but gender did not seem to play a mediating role. Therefore, education programs should include sufficient content on corporal expression to ensure comprehensive training for teachers regardless of their academic activity stage.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the concurrent validity between online evaluations (OEs) and face-to-face evaluations (IPEs) of a Senior Fitness Test and two balance tests in people with low back pain (LBP). The results indicated no significant differences between the two methods except in the 8-foot up-and-go test. Strong correlations were observed in all variables except for the arm-curl and 8-foot up-and-go tests, where moderate correlations were found.

Summary: This study aimed to determine whether there were significant differences between genders in the perception of students from Extremadura towards Corporal Expression (CE) in Physical Education (PE) classrooms. The findings revealed that female students had a more positive perception of CE contents compared to male students, who showed greater indifference and a lower preference for these contents. Overall, participants valued CE with a certain degree of positivity regarding its formative and educational usefulness, as well as the expression of feelings and emotional self-management, and agreed with the methods and means used by teachers to transmit the learning of CE.

Summary: Self-concept is a multidimensional construct that includes beliefs about oneself, such as physical attractiveness, self-esteem, and physical condition. This study aimed to explore differences in self-concept between primary school and high school students, and examine correlations between age groups and self-concept dimensions. The AF-5 scale was used to measure self-concept, and statistical tests were employed to analyze the data. Significant differences were found in academic, emotional, family, and physical dimensions between educational stages, and significant inverse correlations were observed between age groups and dimensions. Overall, self-concept decreases with age and varies according to educational stage.

Summary: This study analyzed the differences in bullying and self-concept among Spanish adolescents, and explored the associations of these sociodemographic dimensions with bullying and self-concept. The results showed that self-concept may serve as a protective factor for bullying, and interventions should focus on helping adolescents develop a positive multidimensional self-concept to prevent and protect them from bullying.
