Summary: This article introduces a TiO2-coated net with photocatalytic antibacterial properties that can purify water in developing countries. By modifying the TiO2 particles, a highly water-durable photocatalyst coating was prepared. The results showed that the coated net effectively eliminated E. coli from water, reducing the risk of infectious diseases.

Summary: This study investigated pathogens, antibiotic resistance, and the change in incidence of neonatal and young infant meningitis in Hong Kong. The results showed that Group B Streptococcus and Escherichia coli were the most common bacterial pathogens, with a decrease in early-onset GBS meningitis rates attributed to universal screening and intrapartum antibiotic prophylaxis. Antimicrobial-resistant bacterial strains causing meningitis require further attention in clinical and public health settings.

Summary: COVID-19 has become a pandemic that disrupts everyone's routine and balanced way of life worldwide. Multiple COVID-19 vaccines have been developed, but the ability of the SARS-CoV-2 virus to mutate poses challenges. It is crucial to spread vaccination programs and prevent the spread of the virus by identifying and isolating infected patients. Additionally, COVID-19 testing methods face issues such as cost, time consumption, and qualified personnel and facilities requirements.

Summary: The purpose of this paper is to present the main profiles of financial frauds' victims. The analysis captures the main theoretical and empirical background regarding the motives and circumstances of becoming a victim, the dynamics of several social and demographical characteristics of this type of victims, as well as a sample of relevant case studies. The main finding is that, in literature, most of the victims are male people of different ages, employed, married or single, regardless the level of education. For developing countries, the majority of victims act out of naivety and desire to escape from poverty, while some victims from Latin America, China and Nigeria are influenced by greed and lack of empathy.

Summary: We found that dead Escherichia coli K1 (EC-K1) can safely penetrate the blood-brain barrier (BBB), and developed a drug delivery system using dead EC-K1, which retain the intact structure and chemotaxis of live EC-K1 but lose their pathogenicity. The dead bacteria carry therapeutics and bypass the BBB, delivering higher doses into the brain than free therapeutics. This strategy enables the therapy of bacterial meningitis and glioblastoma in mice.

Summary: A good understanding of household carbon emissions is crucial for achieving the goals of the Paris Agreement. In developing countries, there are significant disparities in carbon footprints between urban and rural areas, with urban dwellers having higher per capita emissions. Electricity consumption and transportation are major contributors to carbon emissions across all income groups.

Summary: This study aimed to describe the epidemiology and clinical features of patients presenting to the ED with suspected and confirmed COVID-19. Data from eight sites across Victoria and Tasmania in July 2020 showed that 9.6% of patients underwent SARS-CoV-2 testing, with 2% returning a positive result. There was no significant association found between SARS-CoV-2 infection and death or mechanical ventilation in hospital.

Summary: The study aimed to describe characteristics and outcomes of Australian ED patients with suspected or confirmed COVID-19 in 2020 and determine predictors of in-hospital death for SARS-CoV-2 positive patients. Findings showed that SARS-CoV-2 positive patients were more likely to require mechanical ventilation and experience in-hospital death compared to SARS-CoV-2 negative patients. Age, higher triage category, obesity, and receiving immunosuppressive treatment were identified as the strongest predictors of in-hospital death for SARS-CoV-2 positive patients.
