Summary: Cellular senescence plays important roles in tissue remodeling, but excessive senescence may lead to cancer and age-related diseases. It involves cell-cycle arrest and the release of inflammatory cytokines with autocrine, paracrine, and endocrine activities. Therapeutic interventions targeting cellular senescence have shown potential benefits in extending lifespan and reducing tissue injury.

Summary: The importance of bias analysis in epidemiologic research is highlighted in the text, with a mention of the lack of quantitative estimates of bias impacts in reports despite the availability of methods and tools. Three suboptimal bias analysis examples are identified, and common shortcomings in these examples are summarized.

Summary: This study presents a method for using third-generation TKIs to treat EGFR-driven lung cancer, and describes how tumors with distinct epigenetic states can be obtained through different cell types. It was found that tumors of different origins retain their epigenetic differences and have distinct drug vulnerabilities.

Summary: Leptin plays a crucial role in regulating basal metabolism and food intake, and its association with obesity has been linked to various types of cancer. While it may have a detrimental role in cancer initiation and progression, recent evidence suggests that it could also potentially enhance immune response in cancer patients, highlighting its dual role in oncology.

Summary: This review provides an overview of circulating tumour cells (CTCs), which are highly lethal cancer cells and play a crucial role in cancer metastasis. CTCs have clinical utility as diagnostic, prognostic, and therapeutic targets. However, their complex biology and the challenges involved in their isolation and identification hinder their clinical translation. CTCs are capable of forming microemboli composed of diverse populations, which interact with other circulating cells and may increase their malignant potential. These microemboli represent a prognostically important subset, but the presence of phenotypic gradients adds complexity to the situation.

Summary: Cellular senescence plays a critical role in various physiological and pathological contexts. Recent studies have highlighted the dual effects that eliminating senescent endothelial cells can have on health span. This raises questions about the current development of senolytics as a therapeutic strategy.

Summary: This survey examines the changes in cellular network architecture in recent years, emphasizing the advantages and challenges brought by these changes. The new architecture aims to make the cellular network more flexible, scalable, distributed, and programmable by separating components, incorporating virtualized infrastructure, and separating control and data planes. The goal is to enhance network capacity, reliability, connectivity, QoS, and QoE. Upgrading the current architecture is necessary due to the projected increase in cellular traffic in the next generation. Reducing latency through the separation of units and further division is crucial for achieving high data rates.

Summary: FAT1, one of the most frequently mutated genes in cancer, has potential as a target or prognostic biomarker in cancer treatment. Its function in cancer progression seems to be cancer-type specific and requires further clarification. This review summarizes the recent literature on the role of FAT1 in cancer, including its involvement in cell-cell contact, mitochondrial respiration, and epithelial-mesenchymal transition.

Summary: Esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) is a highly malignant cancer with poor prognosis, and its development is based on the classical view of cancer development from stem cell origin and multistep progression. Recent advancements in large-scale and single-cell sequencing technologies, along with transgenic lineage tracing in mouse models, have provided a more detailed understanding of the heterogeneity and early clonal evolution of esophageal stem cells and ESCC. This review discusses the potential relationship between esophageal basal-layer stem cells and cells of ESCC origin, as well as the role of NOTCH1 mutants in the early clonal evolution of ESCCs.
