This study reports the results of two online surveys conducted on buyers of conventional combustion engine cars compared to those of electric vehicles in Norway. The results show that electric cars are generally purchased as additional cars, do not contribute to a decrease in annual mileage if the old car is not substituted, and that electric car buyers use the car more often for their everyday mobility. Psychological determinants derived from the theory of planned behavior and the norm-activation theory show a high correlation between the purchase and use stages. Electric car buyers, have lower scores on many determinants of car use, especially awareness of consequences and close determinants of car use. (C) 2013 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Visual art inspired by climate change-An analysis of audience reactions to 37 artworks presented during 21st UN climate summit in Paris

Christian Andreas Klockner, Laura K. Sommer

Summary: This study suggests and tests a psychological model of environmental art perception, indicating that viewers' emotional reaction to artwork leads to evaluation and reflections, ultimately influencing support for climate policies. The study also reveals that environmental attitudes moderate the effect of reflections on policy support, and artwork features can impact the emotional activation and cognitive processing of viewers.

Summary: Solar panels have not been widely adopted in Nordic countries compared to the rest of Europe. The study found that perceived behavioural control has the biggest influence on the intention to become pilot customers among house owners who have shown interest in solar panels. Innovativeness has a positive impact on intention, while skepticism towards innovation has a negative effect.

Summary: This study investigates the impact of personal norms and compensatory beliefs on individuals' pro-environmental behaviors. The findings reveal that personal norms are the strongest predictor of such behaviors, while compensatory beliefs have a negative influence. Additionally, differences in compensatory beliefs were found between those interested in purchasing battery electric vehicles and owners of plug-in hybrid electric vehicles.

Predictors of public transport use among university students during the winter: A MIMIC modelling approach

Alim Nayum, Trond Nordfjaern

Summary: This study examined attitudinal factors influencing the use of public transport in winter among university students, finding strong effects of social-normative influence and perceived behavioral control. Social status attribution and perceived accident involvement probability had significant influences on attitude. Campaigns promoting sustainable and environmentally friendly travel modes can benefit from highlighting these factors.
