Summary: In this study, the relationship between TGF-beta 1 polymorphisms and susceptibility to chronic liver disease (CLD) was systematically analyzed using 35 eligible studies. The findings indicate that certain TGF-beta 1 gene variations are associated with an increased risk of CLD. Additionally, TGF-beta 1 gene expression is significantly elevated in CLD patients, and a TGF-beta 1 codon 263 variant may affect the secretion of TGF-beta 1 by altering its dimerization.

Summary: This study evaluated endotrophin (ETP) as a prognostic marker in kidney transplant recipients. It found that ETP levels in the blood on the first day after transplantation were strongly associated with delayed graft function, while ETP levels in the urine at the third month after transplantation were significantly correlated with kidney graft function at twelve months. The measurement of collagen type VI formation could aid in predicting graft function in kidney transplant recipients.

Summary: Antiphospholipid syndrome (APS) is a devastating autoimmune disease that can lead to allograft thrombosis or other extra-renal manifestations in renal transplant recipients. The impact of APS on renal allograft function and survival is still unknown, especially in recipients without APS nephropathy.

Summary: This study found that SNPs in the TGF-beta 1 gene are associated with tuberculosis susceptibility and disease severity. Specifically, the rs2317130 CC genotype is linked to higher levels of TGF-beta 1 and interleukin 17A production. These findings suggest a role for TGF-beta 1 promoter SNPs in regulating immune responses during Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection.

Summary: This study investigated the utility of NGAL and CPT in predicting long-term graft survival in kidney transplant recipients. The results showed that NGAL had the best predictive ability for graft loss, with an AUC > 0.7 within 5 years. However, compared to the conventional marker eGFR, NGAL did not consistently provide added value.

Summary: This study utilizing data from ANZDATA registry highlighted the association between prevalent vascular disease and peritoneal dialysis as a pretransplantation dialysis modality with poorer outcomes in kidney transplant recipients aged 65 years and older. Careful selection and evaluation of potential candidates may improve graft and patient outcomes in older patients.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the association between the timing of cardiac allograft vasculopathy (CAV) occurrence post-heart transplant (HT) and graft survival and progression of CAV severity in pediatric HT recipients. The study found that later onset CAV (> 10 years post-HT) was associated with improved five-year graft survival compared to CAV onset at earlier time-points, but the long-term outcomes were similar and poor. The timing of CAV post-HT was not associated with progression of CAV disease severity.

Summary: This study found that pre-emptively transplanted children have improved 5-year renal allograft survival compared to children on dialysis at the time of transplantation. Longer time spent on dialysis pre-transplant negatively correlated with renal allograft survival, but short periods of dialysis did not significantly affect renal allograft survival.

Summary: This study evaluated the distribution of regulatory T cells (Tregs) and their effects on kidney allograft function in Korean kidney transplant recipients. The results showed that patients receiving lower doses of cyclosporine had higher proportions of Tregs. However, no significant relationship was found between Tregs and kidney allograft function in stable kidney transplant recipients.

Summary: Pregnancy in kidney transplantation recipients poses a high risk of complications for both the mother and the fetus. This study focused on the risk of hypertension in pregnancy for patients with IgA nephropathy as the primary kidney disease. The findings suggest that the incidence of hypertension in pregnancy is higher in patients with IgA nephropathy.

Summary: This study aimed to establish a standardized approach for assessing long-term graft histology in pediatric liver transplant recipients. The results showed a high level of agreement among pathologists in assessing various histological features relevant to graft health. Summary: Through studying patients with post-transplant IgAN, it was found that the deposition of C4d in glomeruli is an independent risk factor for decreased allograft survival. Assessment of glomerular C4d may provide a valuable prognostic risk assessment tool to identify high-risk patients in post-transplant IgAN.

Summary: A composite signature of urinary cell level of PAI-1 mRNA and serum creatinine level measured at BKVN diagnosis is prognostic of graft failure in kidney transplant recipients. This study validates the use of composite signature and a specific threshold to identify those at risk for graft failure, supporting personalized treatment of BKVN.

Summary: The study aimed to evaluate postoperative complications in patients with bladder cancer who underwent robot-assisted radical cystectomy and identify predictors for these complications. The results showed that patients with diabetes mellitus, chronic kidney disease, dyslipidemia, or a larger intraoperative fluid volume were more likely to develop postoperative complications. Additionally, patients with postoperative complications had a possibility of lower cancer-specific survival rate.
