Summary: Currently, there is limited and conflicting evidence regarding the management of prostate cancer in renal transplant recipients. This study aimed to assess the differences in treatment and natural history of prostate cancer in renal transplant recipients. The study found that prostate cancer in renal transplant recipients is not aggressive and has similar outcomes to non-renal transplant recipients. However, renal transplant recipients have a significant risk of non-prostate cancer-related death. Therefore, aggressive upfront management of prostate cancer in most renal transplant recipients should be avoided.

Summary: The study retrospectively analyzed 726 renal transplant recipients converted to sirolimus, showing lower cancer incidence rates after conversion. Patients with prior malignancy were older but had lower cancer rates after conversion. Renal function and graft survival were better in all cancer types compared to patients converted to sirolimus without cancers. Patient survival was largely dependent on tumor entity.

Absolute levels of miRNAs, quantified using customized RT-qPCR assays, were found to be capable of rapidly and noninvasively diagnosing acute rejection in liver allografts and distinguishing it from intragraft inflammation or fibrosis caused by recurrent hepatitis C virus.
