Summary: Inorganic medicinal chemistry has largely focused on platinum or ruthenium, with insufficient research on other metal centers such as rhodium. This study synthesized a series of cyclometalated rhodium(iii) complexes, which showed stronger anticancer activity than cisplatin. Mechanistic studies revealed that these complexes induced cellular apoptosis through mitochondrial pathways by causing severe damage and cell cycle arrest.

Summary: The study investigated the antimicrobial, antioxidant, and cytotoxic activities as well as pBR322 Plasmid DNA interaction potentials of newly synthesized Schiff bases and their copper complexes in vitro. The compounds showed moderate antimicrobial activity and oxidative stress index. The compound Bis-Napht exhibited the highest cytotoxic activity in HeLa, MCF-7, and L929 cells. Ligand compounds and their metal complexes were optimized and compared against crystal structures of breast cancer associated protein (BRCA1) and cervical cancer cell proteins (CDK2 receptor). Protein-Ligand Interaction Profiler analysis was performed to examine the chemical interactions occurring.

Summary: Research has been conducted on cyclometalated platinum compounds with diphosphine ligands for their coordination behavior and reactivity. A series of mononuclear and dinuclear cycloplatinated(II) complexes were synthesized and evaluated for their anticancer behavior. The results showed that the compound [Pt(p-tolyl)(K2N,C- bipyO)(K2P-dppe)] (1b) exhibited significant inhibition of cell proliferation and higher cytotoxicity against cancer cell lines compared to cisplatin. The alkyl linker chain length in the diphosphine ligands was found to be a key factor controlling the biological activity. These findings suggest the potential of these cycloplatinated(II) complexes as candidates for future cancer treatment studies.

Summary: Platinum-based chemotherapy is the standard first-line treatment for various types of cancer, including malignant pleural mesothelioma. This study presents a strategy using a breakable nanocarrier to stabilize, transport, and release a platinum(IV) prodrug, which is activated by the presence of glutathione in neoplastic cells. In vitro and in vivo experiments demonstrate the successful release and activation of the Pt-based drug inside cancer cells, leading to a significant reduction in tumor growth.

Summary: In this study, a new complex called ZnCl2(H3)(2) was synthesized and evaluated for its efficacy against Leishmania amazonensis. The results showed that this complex exhibited stronger inhibitory effects on the parasite compared to the free ligand H3. Furthermore, it demonstrated higher selectivity. Additionally, the study revealed that H3 could induce depletion of endogenous parasite sterols and their replacement by 24-desalkyl sterols, and the zinc derivative of H3 resulted in a loss of cell viability.

Summary: New copper(I), copper(II), and zinc(II) azasterol derivatives were synthesized using 20-hydrazone-imidazolin-2-yl-5 alpha-pregnan-3 beta-ol (H1) as a ligand. The metal complexes were fully characterized and their molecular structures were investigated using computational methods. In vitro antifungal tests showed that the metal-azasterol complexes were more effective against S. brasiliensis than the ligand H1, with [Zn(H1)(2)(OH)(2)] demonstrating the highest efficiency. These results suggest the potential of metal-azasterol complexes in developing new antifungal compounds.
