Summary: This study identified maternal HLA class Ib genetic factors associated with anti-HLA allo-immunization during pregnancy, with HLA-E*01:06, HLA-F*01:03, and HLA-G UTR4 being significant factors. These findings highlight the importance of certain HLA class Ib alleles in reducing the risk for allo-immunization in pregnancy and suggest the need for further research on their roles.

Summary: Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) requires multiple platelet transfusions, which can trigger an immune response against platelets. This study analyzed the immune activation profiles of AML patients with or without anti-HLA alloimmunization and found differences in the phenotype and function of CD4+ T lymphocytes. These findings have implications for understanding immune responses in AML patients.

Summary: Immune-mediated platelet refractoriness (PR) is a significant issue in platelet transfusion, mainly caused by alloantibodies against human leukocyte antigens (HLA). Variations in HLA-specific IgG responses have been observed between alloimmunized patients. This study found that different Fc glycosylation patterns did not affect phagocytosis of opsonized platelets by monocyte-derived human macrophages.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the effect of Mirasol treatment on HLA alloimmunization. The results showed that the risk of HLA alloimmunization was low in both the experimental and control groups, with no significant difference between the two. Therefore, the study concludes that Mirasol treatment does not have a significant protective effect against HLA alloimmunization.

Summary: This study found that WB units collected from donors with SCT have a high rate (55% in aggregate) of inadequate leukoreduction, even when leukofiltration appears to have been completed successfully. Combining this result with previous studies, it is estimated that only 25% of WB donations collected from individuals with SCT will result in a leukoreduced RBC unit that meets all FDA requirements.

Summary: Maternal erythrocyte alloimmunization is a major cause of fetal anemia. Intrauterine blood transfusion (IUT) is the standard treatment, but it may have adverse effects before 20 weeks of gestation. This report discusses the use of double filtration plasmapheresis (DFPP) as a rescue therapy to prolong pregnancy and reduce the occurrence of ABO hemolytic disease in neonates. Clinical trials are needed to further validate these results.

Summary: The study investigated the molecular basis of non-D+ blood donors in Thailand, revealing partial RHD*06.03 as the most common variant in samples exhibiting weak/partial D phenotype, while the whole gene deletion was predominant in samples with D-negative (D-) phenotype. Additional novel alleles were identified, emphasizing the need for a dedicated diagnostic strategy to optimize blood management in Thailand.

Summary: DENV prevalence among donors at the Xishuangbanna Blood Center in Yunnan was 26.53%, with significant differences noted by occupation, education, and ethnicity. This study provides important data for the development of DENV screening strategies for clinical use.

Summary: This study found that the incidence of platelet antibodies among Chinese women is relatively low, with these antibodies binding to both maternal HLA and HPA antibodies on platelets, resulting in reduced birthweight of healthy neonates delivered by these women.

Summary: Transfusion-related acute lung injury (TRALI) is a leading cause of death associated with blood transfusion. TRALI can be categorized into antibody-mediated and non-antibody-mediated types. Neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) formed by activated neutrophils play a significant role in TRALI. Platelets, macrophages, endothelial cells, and complements also promote NET formation.

Summary: The majority of surgeons and nurses surveyed indicated they would accept a blood transfusion in emergency situations, even if it might potentially harm a future fetus. Gender and child-bearing age did not have a significant impact on transfusion acceptance.

Summary: This study determined the prevalence and phenotypes of Rh antigens among regular blood donors in Iran, with e antigen and R(1)r (DCcee) phenotype being the most common. Establishing an Rh database can help reduce the risk of alloimmunization among multiple transfusion recipients.

Summary: Knowledge of local population's frequency of Rh blood group systems is important for building a donor pool and providing antigen-negative compatible blood for patients. ABO and Rh antigens are identified before transfusion. Antiglobulin tests are used for unexpected antibody screening, and retrospective analysis shows a high accordance rate of Rh phenotype-matched transfusion and reduced incidence of adverse transfusion reactions. Blood transfusion with matched Rh phenotypes avoids unexpected antibodies, reduces adverse reactions, and improves precision in diagnosis and treatment.
